I have lost my Semih... [signs in Turkey for next 2+ years]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Doesn't this season start the ability to option guys to D-League? Maybe we're going rotate the end of the bench to Canton. Can anyone explain the new D-League rules?

Thanks...so we got a 2012 1st and the right to swap in 2013 for Sessions? How did we fleece them so badly?

I knew about the Kings pick, but I have officially written it off permanently.

Which trade got us Orlando's 2nd? Totally drawing a blank.

We traded Justin Harper (2011 2nd round pick) for 2 future Orlando 2nd rounders.

Tahnks. We really have allot of picks still. Way too many really. We could be trading away 2nd rounders to move up in the first for yeats to come. No team should take on more than 2 rookies in a year, not even a rubuilding team.

So, the '86 Cavs made a mistake in taking on 5 rookies in Brad Daugherty, Ron Harper, Mark Price, Hot Rod Williams, & Johnny Richmond?? :dunno:
Needless to say, I disagree with that. With a 15 man roster, I see no reason a rebuilding team can't take on 3-5 rookies.

Hot Rod was drafted the year before, Johny Newman was nothing, and the 86 cavsdidnt already have a budding superstar pg/ Basically hot rod was tt, just didnt get to play the year before and we traded for price.

My point is we really only took on 3 quality rookies and the cubboard was completely bare except Hot rod from the year before being cleared to play and Keith Lee has already shown the injury bug and was soon going to be out of the league. We had zero rookies from the year before that played much except a disapointing Lee. Hot Rod was stuck in a legal case and we took a gamble and one.

Really the same, 4 quality rookies in 4 years (unless you count Lee as a 5th). Adding 3 or 4 this year would be way too many 1st/2nd year players too quick. Look back to the cavs draft. 05

The difference was that team in that year was like an expansion team looking to find the way once again. They needed a hard reboot after Stepien and after realizing that B. Free wasn't in the future plans. Plus they brought a new philosophy into it. 3 years of the Gunds... it was the perfect time to start anew. We've had a similar philosophy in place already for the last year or so and a built in coach with a GM that had a similar mindset to the one from 2005. That's been 7 years of the same thought process. What we realized was that we didn't need a quantity of could-be's, if was a high quality of players.

You can ruin a team if you have too many inexperienced guys for a couple reasons:
Their contracts go at the same time, so we could lose them all at once and have no ability to commit or not have the where with all to keep adding flexibility into a contender.
Their inexperience adds up for the worst: Byron can't stomach trying to teach so many guys at once his system, he needs vets and more experienced guys to teach them, the ratio then needs to be 10:2 rather than 7:5 in experience vs. rookies.
They can't add the stars because of the crap around them. So get enough quality to find those stars.

Just a few reasons. A case like 1986 or 1997 (which saw Henderson, Anderson, Ilgauskas, and Knight for only 2+ years) is the exception, not the rule.

Byron Scott is big on having players with similar abilities go against one another in the off season. I have to imagine the point of keeping Semih around is to have him and Big Z 2.0 go against one another in the off season and in practice.

A friendly level of competition between Irving and Waiters, Zeller and Semih, Gee and Batum/Teletovic/??? will be great for this team.

Looks like the FO wants one more year of sweet, sweet tankage

No, I think it is more that since Erden's last contract was not guaranteed, his QO will be just as guaranteed than the previous contract.

If some other team want Erden, the Cavs can talk sign and trade.

If Erden goes to Europe and excels, the Cavs will keep him a restricted free agent until he returns or until the Cavs need that extra $1mil of cap space.

Or even if Erden accepts the Cavs qualifying offer, the Cavs can still waive him any time they like without taking a financial hit.

It's a no risk move for the Cavs.

With this news, you have to think Chris Grant and the FO knew about this, so making him a qualifying offer wasnt a big risk, just allows them to hold on to his rights while he gets to go to Turkey and play big minutes and get more exp. If he ever comes back Cavs get first dibbs

The team just got collectively better looking. No homo.
