I have lost my Semih... [signs in Turkey for next 2+ years]

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I think we saw some nice things from Erden tonight
.
I don't know how in the hell you people can keep making calls about players this early in the year--saying things like Erden isn't a long term piece, and Casspi is horrible. It's really starting to get old how many know-it-all posters we have on this board.

There's a lot of time, trades, and changes to be had this season. I'm glad that Scott is far more patient than many of the posters around here.

I agree! We saw he's willing to mix it up and that he can attack the rim, albeit in this game, not finish quite yet. (to me, it looked more like rust versus lack of skill) There is always room for seven footers on your roster , especially if they show any level of talent. (So why is Hollins still here?) The best part of his game that i saw versus the Jazz is how he showed up pretty well for a big man on the pick and rolls. I don't think Samardo will be moving from the bench anytime soon, unless matchup's clearly dictate it.

Also i agree, some folks just want to pull the plug on players right away. I'm not saying Erden is a building block....but hey...he's worth a looksee. Casspi has talent as well, he's just disappointed on a large level. It is however a long season and i'd love to see him pull out of this tailspin he's in.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Sessions never gets it to guys on the run. He need to get the ball to the bigs before the defense sets up. I saw several opportunities for layups and dunks from Erden and Thompson. Looks like Erden's big advantage is he is really very quick for his size. He is able to show very hard on guards, and then get back to his man.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I saw the thread say "Semih Erden returns..." on the main forum page and I was hoping it would finish like "to the bench"

I actually agree with you about something! I haven't said anything about Erden because he needs time to show what he can do.

otoh, fans over-reacting to players is nothing new or specific to this board.

What do you mean "you people"? :king:

The reason is because it is much easier to POST than it is to THINK.

Rationality and thought-process are not found in all places, and this board can be devoid of it all too often.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Erden is an upgrade over Hollins and brings a true C as a backup rather than Samuels who's better suited at PF. So far in his career Erden has shown that his potential appears to be an average backup C. Hopefully it's more and he can be a solid consistent player. He was never that productive in Europe either and he does turn 26 this year.
Don't at all think he's a stiff and he should get minutes but I'm trying to have reasonable expectations about what he can bring long term.

Great points, but I'd like to add that very few expected to see Gortat and Mahanmi turning out to be this good.

I actually predicted both would be good, and was an advocate of making a run for Gortat in the trade market, and a run Mahamini after his first year in SA.

I'm with you, but I was referencing the day they were drafted. I think we were on the same page after watching them as rookies. Ben was the initial president of the RCF Gortat fan club, but we were VP and treasurer.

I was pissed when Dallas stole Ian for nothing. GOD DAMMIT. Sitting on our hands.

So, to get back on topic... I had the same feeling when I watched a HEALTHY Erden. I think that is his greatest hurdle, since when healthy, he reminds me of rookie versions of Ian and Marcin. He is also older than those guys, but don't shit on my pie and call it chocolate cool whip.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Erden has played a grand total of 85 minutes in 6 games for the Cavaliers.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Did this guy just foul out in 12 minutes of play? WTF?!?!

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Samuels has been fouling a lot in his limited play too...

Anyways fouls happen when you don't have your basketball legs back.
