I have lost my Semih... [signs in Turkey for next 2+ years]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Semih Erden

I am sure Coach Scott is getting on him about the lack of rebounding and I wonder how many games ( 10 seems to be the number he likes ) he gives Erden to improve before trying another player at the back up C.

ABJ last week said Scott would go to TT as backup C if Erden doesn't improve in his 10 game audition.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I'm not. The thing I like about Erden is that he doesn't drag his team down even if he is not yet up to speed entirely. It's not like he's calling for the ball in the low post on every posession and turns it over constantly like Samuels did. I like Erden's ability to at least get to the basket with some nice moves and draw fouls.

I think Samuels did a nice job demonstrating the parts of his game I was missing.

It's not so bad having a player who wants the ball in the post, when he's knocking opponents around, and dunking all over them. :)

Any word on why Semih didn't play .vs the Heat? I guess if he doesn't show up .vs. the Knicks and there's no injury report, we can assume he's been tossed back in to the Scott's play time queue.

Re: Semih Erden

According to Jason Lloyd:

BScott sat Semih tonight because he thought the Heat were just too athletic for him. "This game we could've really used Tristan"

Re: Semih Erden

Interesting conclusion reached by Scott regarding Erdens athleticism. If he lacks confidence in Semih on that score, i don't think it bodes well for Erden. He implies that Hollins is more athletic, and applauds his effort off the bench.

I sense that Scott likes Gee, and if Gee can guard James, well he can make a living in the NBA for a few years on that alone.

I also took the comments on turnovers as aimed at the whole team and not just Kyrie.. Maybe even the team other than Kyrie.

He describes Samardo's pass to pat Riley, but I noticed Omri had 4 turnovers and Parker had three as well...

Re: Semih Erden

I like Byron but at times i think he takes his love of his veterans a bit too far. Samardo should've been on the floor instead Jamison during later part of the 4th and cracking on Samardo's AWFUL pass really is uncalled for , i mean, i think Samardo knows it was horrendous. I saw quite a few bad passes from a BUNCH of our players yesterday.

Also, i hope Byron finally learned about Ryan Hollins. The man shouldn't even be on our roster, let alone seeing minutes over ANYONE.

Re: Semih Erden

Man, that doesn't speak well for Semih's future in the NBA, does it?

Getting sat because you feel like the other team was too athletic...ouch.

Not really. Z started a lot of games for us even though he wasn't athletic enough to deal with the speed of certain teams.

btw, I thought Iving did a nice job defending James, and even Parker and Jamison had their moments, so I'm not sure what to take away from Gee's effort. The LeBron playing for Miami last night simply didn't look like the one that used to play for the Cavs. If this is the evolution of his game, it hasn't quite evolved.

Re: Semih Erden

I think by too athletic he has to have meant that he anticipated a fast-paced game that the tired-legged Semih couldn't have coped with. I can't imagine Semih being too unathletic to guard the Heat players getting time at center (Haslem? Anthony? Pittman?).

Re: Semih Erden

Byron probably felt that the Heat would try to run and push the pace more than they did, and Semih would likely be a liability in that situation just trying to get up and down the court. Semih's a big, lumbering guy who isn't in game shape yet, so I can see where he was coming from. We only saw it in stints though when Cole came in and really sped up Miami's attack.

Re: Semih Erden

From Tom Reed:

Pine time: In the preseason, coach Byron Scott hinted that Semih Erden could become a starter once his thumb healed and if he played well.

The Turk is healthy, but hardly playing well. Scott has not played him in the past four games, including Sunday's win in Boston. Samardo Samuels and Ryan Hollins are being used ahead of him.

Scott had planned to evaluate Erden for 10 games in the rotation, starting with Jan. 10 contest in Utah. The trial lasted just seven games.

"I lied," Scott said. "I did kind of lie on that one. . . . I think I gave him a fair chance. I was a little disappointed. I'm hoping these three games he hasn't played gets in his head and when he gets another opportunity he takes advantage of it."

Erden is averaging 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in eight games. He scored 14 of his 27 points in one game against Golden State.

"If he plays hard every single night he has a chance to be a good player," Scott said. "It's an energy and effort thing. He has to play a lot harder."

Re: Semih Erden

I do like that Scott isn't afraid to bench his guys for a few games. But he should do it with Jamison now (for his shot-chucking, and lack of anything resembling defense). Let Andy, TT, Samardo, Erden eat up all the minutes at PF/C. Heck, throw in Harangody (or even Hollins) if you have to. Just bench Jamison. :chuckles:

Re: Semih Erden

Don't know how many others were listening to the Celtics' stream for tonights game, but their guys were talking about Semih. Mentioned something about Semih saying that he would like to return to Boston. My stream was crummy though so I didn't catch all of it, but it didn't sound good.

Yeah, Celtics sideline reporter said that he'll be a free agent at the end of the season and would like to return to Boston. Not sure how much to make of it, though. He was also high-fiving Cavs players after the win. If he doesn't get any better and doesn't see any time on the floor, he's not going to be back, and it's not going to matter where he goes.

Re: Semih Erden

Was I seeing a different player than Scott?

I thought he showed just enough talent and hard work on the court to keep getting playing time. He wasn't the quickest player out there, but he was head above Hollins and he's a 7 footer.

Unless there is a lack of effort in practice, or something like that, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to keep giving developmental minutes to a 7 footer.
