I was just pointing out that in John Hollinger's own measurement rubric, the PER, AV is clearly ahead of Hibbert by a score of 19.09 to 18.39. I personally consider the play of Hibbert and AV to be a toss up for second best center play in the East. Hibbert is more of a traditional center in the pivot while AV relies more on his positioning and agility.
I'm just pointing out Hollinger's own inconsistency here.
If you read who he thinks should be on the team, he does not take Hibbert either. He takes Chandler. He IS defaulting to stats he made up here. The funny thing about Hollinger, two years ago he was touting Andy as a DPOY candidate at mid-season. But the things Andy does the best do not show up in his PER. And the EWA is just an off shoot of the PER.
You would think a defender that good, who was #1 in offensive rebound rate, #3 in total rebound rate and who was averaging a double double would be in the conversation. And the #1 reason why I think he should be a candidate at the least is we start the worst PF in all of basketball, we start a bottom 5 SF and maybe the worst SG, yet we are 9-13. That shows just how great AV and Irving have really been. Any stat that says AV has been worth 2.5 wins and Jamison 1.4 is just wrong.
Trying to be unbiased though, Chandler is having a great year also and Hibbert is having a good year too--can't say none of them deserve it. But it is really really close.
