Jared Cunningham

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not completely writing off the possibility that Mo Williams was effectively benched against Oklahoma City, and the thumb injury was a convenient way to avoid giving a veteran the "DNP CD" tag. Cunningham and Delly were the right plays against Westbrook and Waiters.
Not sure Mo would willingly go along with that plot, but maybe the Cavs told him "if you are not 100%, we want you to take a night off" and I'm sure he was fine with that.

That just speaks to Mo being not a really good acquisition in the off-season. And I was all on board bringing him back too.

But really, I said this before, a guy like Cunningham is more valuable to the team than Mo.

When we go against the Bulls, GS, etc, teams with good offensive guards, Mo just isn't going to fit at all. Hell, Mo can't even be counted on for teams like the Raptors. Lowry who clearly is a few tiers below the best point guards, just torched him.

We need defense and athleticism out of our back court off the bench. Mo provides none of that.

Delly's improvement overall makes the Mo being back even less important.

Right now, I have Cunningham ahead of Mo in the rotation when it comes to playing talented offensive back courts (which there are quite a few in this league)

And we are going to see teams like that come playoff time too.

The only part I don't agree with is your view of lowry.

He's having a great year

He's not on the level of Paul, Curry, and Westbrook.

I wouldn't even put him in the same class as Wall and Lillard.

Wasn't suggesting he's not good. And he is having a really good year.

I was just pointing out even good point guards, forget the great ones, you can't even play Mo.

He get's torched by any guard with any offensive game at all.

Mo does have value. He can chew up regular season minutes against bad teams. He can bring up the ball when lebron is tired. If he could hit more of the wide open 3-pointers he gets then that will go some way to make up for his defense. When Shump is back for good (god willing) we will have one of the league's best perimeter defenders to pair him with if we need to.

Having him is way better than the situation we were in during last year's finals where Delly got hospitalized from exhaustion because he was the only damn PG we had. And remember Mo is on a very cheap contract -- precisely because he is not starter quality.

Also, Mo will look a lot better on fewer minutes. Blatt significantly overplayed him for a while, he was averaging well over 30 MPG for a bit which is way too much. That helped lead to these nagging injuries of his, which also don't make him look good.

Yeah...Cunningham has actually looked like a serviceable body out there, which doesn't sound like much but is really quite a compliment. I can only imagine how this team would have looked without him, with all these injured guards and Joe Harris getting his minutes instead.

Where is this coming from? Lowry is playing as good as any point guard not named Curry or Westbrook this year

Edit missed this second post: Lowry has been or better then Paul, Lillard, Wall.
He's got a PER of 23.5 and he's got the third highest RAPM in the league behind Curry and Westbrook. A full point ahead of Lebron/Leonard

Ha, nobody believed me when i said i liked this signing :D

He has delivered exactly what i was hoping.. decent defense, shooting and slashing.. not really a guy you want to play once we are healthy.. but a good guy to have just in case.

I really love our depth atm. Once we are relativly healthy we are deep.

I mean our backcourt is Full with servicable guys. After Kyrie and Shump there are JR,Delly,Mo,Cunn,RJ(mostly SF but he could). I love that.

I love our versaitility in our lineups. Blatt can choose what he needs of the Bench any night.

Need scoring.. Bring Mo in.. Need Defense.. Bring Delly and Cunningham. Need Veterans.. Plug in RJ at SG.

His defense isn't just serviceable, it is very good. He got a foul last night that the refs couldn't believe so they called the foul on him, but damn if he didn't stay right in front of Durant and let him hit him in the numbers.

At this point, Joe Harris isn't going to get any more chances, even without our best perimeter defender or our best offensive backcourt player. Jared at least will provide a skill that's needed at the moment (perimeter D).

I still don't think Cunningham has a long stay, regardless. If Shump can stay healthy (which I liken to a healthy Sam Bowie/motivated Derrick Coleman on planet bullshit), we certainly won't need Cunningham (Harris goes without saying).

When all is said and done, barring a catastrophe to our championship hopes, Jared strikes me as a "non-guaranteed" cut who will come back on 10-day contracts while finding his fit in the league.

Good luck, J.C.!

Idk Rabman, LeBron has really taken a liking to this kid. He's going to be another kid LeBron gets paid.

Forget Lebron, we'd be a fool to let Cunningham go. "If Shump can stay healthy" kind of says it all, but even with Shump healthy this team can use another good perimeter defender in the backcourt to match up with quick guards.
