I hated him in Chicago, but right now beggars can't be choosers. If we brought him in I would guess he would platoon with Brantley in LF and play DH on his off days? Not really sure he still has much range to be playing LF though. He played RF in Chicago but obviously he wouldn't take Choo's spot.

Indians eyeing Dye
The Indians are keeping an eye on Jermaine Dye, who turned down a $3.3 million offer from the Cubs -- who then gave that deal to outfielder Xavier Nady. Since then, Dye has not received much interest.

Dye Heading to AL Club

Several baseball executives said Friday that they expect Jermaine Dye to sign with an American League club. That way, his at-bats could be spread among the maximum number of positions: left field, right field, designated hitter and perhaps first base. But even if Dye's market is restricted to the AL, he should appeal to a number of clubs still looking for a corner bat or DH. Toronto, Kansas City, Cleveland and Detroit all match that description.

That would be nice, maybe change my opinion about this season being a waste, but who knows?

I prefer that we don't sign him. We need to let the kids play. One Jermaine Dye more or less isn't going to significantly increase our chances of going to the playoffs. All it would do is take away development time for our youngsters.

What we need is starting pitching, not Jermaine Dye.

And if we can avoid the word "platoon" at all costs, it would be lovely.

I don't see a place for him on this club and could certainly use a pitcher rather than Jermaine Dye's old ass.

No thanks; for the reasons in the prior two posts.

I don't see it happening, just b/c the Tigers right now have a few bucks, some openings, and Dye looks like he will be cheaper than Damon.

If he can play 1B I would take him. The club needs some RHed power to help balance against lefties. With so many youngsters in the lineup having some protection for them can be important for their development as a unit.

Guys have to earn their playing time, imo. Right now, Brantley is penciled in to LF for no other reason than their are no better options. I don't like that. He was solid in his appearance here at the end of last season, but he still has things to work on. I wouldn't be opposed to him getting a start in Columbus, where he can work on his repertoire. Dye would then find a spot in the lineup against lefties, replacing one of the plethora of left-handed hitters in this lineup. If LaPorta doesn't come north then there is definitely playing time available. If Dye hits well, he becomes a nice little trading chip at the deadline. He brings that 'veteran presence'. Like I said, if he can play some 1B, I would like to see it, but I would be surprised if he gets past a contender. The Tribe appears to have saved a few bucks anticipating some bargains and Dye looks like yet another one of them that is floating out there.

If he's asking for money, then the Indians wont sign him..

No worries.

Sign him and then trade him when we are out of contention to a team desperate for a bat and get a couple good prospects.

sign him, hope he does great, then trade him for a prospect right before the deadline

jermaine dye FTW!

Its the Shapiro way. He is good at ripping off desperate franchises for solid prospects for mediocre talents in return.

I always hear how we're ripping these teams off but when is it going to translate into W's? I have lost interest in the Indians so much over the years, I used to race home to catch the early games but I didn't even watch one full game last year.

Between Dolan's cheap ass and the steroids I just can't really get into the Tribe anymore. It's just hard to get behind a team knowing if they single up the middle they're probably going to the Sox or Mets.

Signing an over the hill corner outfielder to steal at bats from the developing players is a classic Shapiro move. This would not surprise me at all.

I kind of like the Idea we all see how some players can get a boost with a new team. He In my mind would be a decent pick up he did post steady numbers every year... Hey he has to be better than the... We had no good signings did we?

so with a team that's not contending, filled with extremely young players, you would be an advocate of Brantley starting the season in Columbus? I understand that he is very young and will go through ups and downs this year, but really, Columbus?
