Jermaine Dye?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With or without Jermaine Dye I think Brantley is this team's starting LF.

With left handers at all three OF spots and DH, there would be plenty of at-bats for Dye to go around.

Not at $3 million plus though....more like 1.5.

so with a team that's not contending, filled with extremely young players, you would be an advocate of Brantley starting the season in Columbus? I understand that he is very young and will go through ups and downs this year, but really, Columbus?

Yeah. He was fairly mediocre at C-Bus; he stole bases, but didn't hit for average. He hit well up here, but I don't trust that small of a sample size especially when it was against September callups and it was punctuated by Brantley's continued lack of power. He has to at least show the ability to drive the ball into the gap or he is just an overglorified Jason Tyner- forget Juan Pierre.

I'm not saying leave him at Columbus all year, either; I just don't want to hand someone like him being handed a starting position. Until this Dye rumor popped up I was kind of hoping for Kearns to come in and have a good camp and really push Brantley. If he comes to camp, hits well and does his thing, well then fine. To me, though, regardless of where the team is at they need to always stress putting the best players out on the field and making guys earn their way. They earn their way up the minor league ladder, it shouldn't be any different in the bigs.

And this point by b00bie points it out too, Brantley may not need to be sent down necessarily but could still work in a good # of ABs. Again, he is the least accomplished and proven of our OFers and I want to see him have to earn it.

Macbdog, I listened to Terry Pluto's chat today and he's an advocate of Brantley leading off for the Tribe right out of the gate. I agree with him. I see him as a regular for years to come. I say let him have the job right away. I don't think he needs any more AAA time. I agree that he needs more gap power, but I think we can live with this as long as his OBP is reasonable and he can steal a base.

Sizemore is developing into more of a power hitter anyway, and would look better down in the order IMO.

It's one thing to want Dye over Brantley. That's at least tolerable. But wanting/expecting Austin Kearns to get the majority PT in the OF is just...weird. And really, it makes no sense.
Did you take weirdo pills this morning? Usually you're pretty spot on with your baseball knowledge.

No, no no no & no.... Take any money that you'd spend on that deal and use it for MUCH needed starting pitching.
