He's going to hit sub-.200 with 0 extra base hits before he gets DFA'd

We're talkin' about Santana, right?

yeah, him too

Since I see these kind of comments made about Santana frequently, figured I would chime in.

There are 30 teams in the MLB. Carlos is having a down year for his standards, we can agree there. But even in a down year he is 15th among all 1B in OPS, 15th in fWAR, 18th in HR, 16th in RBI, 8th in OBP, 17th in slugging, 3rd in BB, 15th in WRC+, 2nd in UBR (ultimate base running), 18th in ISO...so in his worst year he is an average 1B offensively with above average traits...you'd think we were trotting out the worst hitting 1B in baseball history reading some of this shit.

But go ahead, bring up his .227 batting average like it is 1985.

He's average. I wish we would have traded him for some AA players.

Not to mention, he's hitting .272 with an .886 OPS (and 4 SB to boot) in July.

Considering Santana's struggles this year, it's one of the main reasons the Indians have been disappointing.

But if he gets back on track, this offense goes from laughable to decent. Obviously you need more than 1 guy to catch fire, but if Santana was having a solid(not even good or great) year, the Indians are right in the thick of the wild card race(not that they are out of it yet).

Sucks he has struggled. The upside is there, it just hasn't worked out.

@Lord Mar from 2010 to 2014 Santana ranks out of 59 qualified 1B: 7th in fWAR, 12th in wRC+, 7th in OBP, 19th in OPS, 22nd in ISO, 26th in K%, 2nd in BB%, 19th in RBI, 17th in HR, 13th in R...just screams average player to me.

What's disappointing about Santana isn't his talent. Sometimes you wonder how truly invested he is in the game.

His average I don't care about, he's never going to hit .300, that's not the type of player he is.

He does have 30-35 home run, and 100 RBI potential in him though. After last year, he looked poise to have a breakout year, and it's very disappointing that he's not.

If the Indians are going to have any slimmer of hope of still doing something, given it might be too late regardless, there's no doubt he's going to have to pick it up in the slugging department. He's the only one on the team capable of producing big time power numbers.

His approach at the plate needs to change. I hate his damn leg kick. Drop a curveball in for strike 1 every time and he'll be down in the count early. He's too selective at the plate so he walks a lot (good) but he tries to hit everything else out of the park which is why his average will never be great.
