His approach at the plate needs to change. I hate his damn leg kick. Drop a curveball in for strike 1 every time and he'll be down in the count early. He's too selective at the plate so he walks a lot (good) but he tries to hit everything else out of the park which is why his average will never be great.
Again, which doesn't matter for reasons you mention in this post...he walks a lot. I don't give 2 shits about his average, cause he gets on base at a the rate of a .280-.290 hitter. Case in point why batting average means jack shit; Dee Gordon is currently hitting .334, compared to Santana's .227...Santana gets on base at a .360 clip, Dee Gordon at a .355 clip.
I do agree with his approach at the plate when hitting though. He's at his best when he goes gap to gap...he gets pull happy way too much. Another reason why I want a new hitting coach and a new voice in his head about this issue.
