Cleveland trades: Wally, West (signed for 6 million per year), AV, 2009 1st round pick
Atlanta trades: Joe Johnson, Zaza, Claxton

This trade would be possible near the deadline if the Hawks had a terrible record near the deadline. With AV, Wally, and Bibby expiring the Hawks could be a major player in free agency. Also they get the decent pg they have been looking for for a while. I doubt Bibby get resigned after next year.
Cleveland gets a backup pg, and pf/c who are each good backups. Joe Johnson obviously becomes our SG. Also, all three expire after the 09-10 season. This team would be contenders for at least 5 years if we resign our core. Mo, Lebron, and Johnson are all under 26. Even if we have to part with another pick it would still be worth it because our team has youth at every position. I know its a longshot, but what do you think?

mo/claxton
johnson/ gibson
lebron/ sasha/kinsey
wallace/hickson
z/zaza/FA

No way. Atlanta is going nowhere and its mainly Joe Johnsons fault for things hes done but I don't think there going to dump him for expirings, draft picks and fillers. The only way JJ will ever be a Cavalier is during the summer of 2010.

Btw, Joe Johnson is 27, thats not under 26.

Ok I was off by 1 year. My point was that collectively we would have a young core. Why wouldn't they dump him if they are going nowhere. With their amount of cap space they could sign a star player and have a lineup like this.

west
FA
Marvin Williams
Smith
Horford

There really aren't any good free agents in the 2009 summer. He expires in 2 years.. I don't see why they don't just keep him and hit the market then. Maybe if they even score a nice player they can keep JJ around.

if av truely has become a better offensive player and improved that much and also atlanta is doing horrible then we would have a good shot at him. it would be great to get joe.

Chich292... is right. did you watch the playoff series vs. boston? he established himself as a superstar, he will definitely earn more on the market than that...at least another star in return. plus for the hawks he is the face of their franchise, and if their record goes downhill, he's not going to be a scapegoat. this trade is ridiculous.

This is a good post overall except for the "superstar" part. There are only 5 true superstars in the league right now.

So your saying Joe Johnson isn't a superstar?

Than what is he, Amuse me with your answer

Joe Johnson is an allstar, not a superstar...He would not be recognized or mobbed in China for example. Kobe, Lebron, D-Wade...and some others...those are super stars. Other players like shaq or kidd still are super stars just not at the zenith of their game anymore.

I love his game, absolutely think he might be the perfect option next to Lebron....or d-wade.....but just arguing if he is a superstar or not, not disrespecting his game by any means. Living here in phoenix, I saw him develop.
