Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Any game where you only play two full drives and don't score any points on either of them shouldn't be considered a game that you "won." That's just common sense.

Everyone looked the other way on Hoyer technically being "3-0 as a starter last year" because they didn't want to give Weeden credit for that game. That's all it is.

The clock management has been rational, the 60-yard field goal is what it is.

We'll have to disagree on that. We watch the Houston first half where they fail to call a time out and it takes like 30 seconds off the clock.

Your logic is flawed because:

1. This decision isn't solely on Pettine
2. The two things you mentioned are wholly irrelevant to the topic at hand

1. He's the head coach, he makes the final roster moves.
2. They reflect on coaching as a whole

Then it's funny you don't mention that as the head coach, he's got a franchise that's been the laughing stock of the league sitting 1.5 games out of first in December with Brian Hoyer as his quarterback.

No no, let's talk more about the field goal instead of....punting it on fourth down...I guess?

Huh? I'm not in-tune with whatever you're debating, but this is not necessarily true. It isn't true in many other front offices, for certain. The coach decides who dresses and goes on the field, the GM generally has final say on roster moves. It's wise and a common courtesy to listen to the coach because they are constantly paying attention, but the General Manager's job is the roster.

I probably would have just gone with a hail mary after seeing that Cundiff absolutely couldn't kick the ball anywhere near sixty yards when Smith iced the first kick, especially knowing Hester was in the end zone waiting to return it.

The first sixty yard kick is totally forgivable. Kicking it again after seeing the result of the first kick was just stupid and almost gave Atlanta seven free points.

If Cundiff said he could get it there, you trust him to do it. They clearly talked after the first kick, you're playing indoors and the odds of a hail mary with the Browns receivers is almost non-existent.

Hope he kicks the shit out of it and get three, it's hardly something we should still be talking about three weeks later.

I'm pretty darn happy with Pettine this year. I think he's made a lot more good decisions than bad. However; that ATL FG try was stupid from the start.

Good stuff, and sounds about right.

Probably my favorite thing said in the article. But it was good stuff nonetheless.

“To be really good at one thing will take you a long way, but you have to read defenses as a dropback guy to survive,” Grossman said. “Everything else Manziel has is a bonus, but he'll have to master that.”

Nailed it.

The way Sexy Rexy describes Shanahan's ideal QB I couldn't help but think he'd be in heaven with a guy like Andrew Luck. Pass first, has legit wheels and enough body to absorb some punishment if need be.

Even with the brain farts, a guy like Cutler would be a good partner with Kyle.

The problem with potential All Pro quarterbacks is there aren't enough of them.

I was happy to sit back and let the chips fall since Sunday. Manziel isn't ready until he can operate in a pro-style offense by design first, improvise second. Article after article since last spring have said the exact same.

How do we know he can't though? Without actually seeing him on the field for more then 2 drives.

I would have went for the Hail Mary. We probably wouldn't have scored, but you have a better chance of doing that then Cundiff hitting a 60 yarder. 1.5 out of first is meaningless, if you aren't 1st; you're last.

You have a better chance at finding the cure to AIDS then Cundiff hitting that 60 yarder. It's just not in his range.

Sorry, I meant the depth chart.

Get ready Cleveland, Johnny Manziel turns 22 today. Something tells me he's not celebrating with a nice dinner with Mom again. Hoyer just has to avoid sucking ass long enough for Johnny's hangover to recede by halftime.

To my real point though, it's crazy that he's younger than both starting QBs (Cardale Jones and Joel Stave) in today's Big Ten title game and both starting QBs (Blake Sims and Maty Mauk) in the SEC title game.
