Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So regardless of doing that in college, we can't assume it will transfer because this is the NFL now?

Yeah, not sure that's how it works for every other prospect...not how it works for Johnny Football

Guys get better and learn to make better decisions. We'll most likely find out on Sunday if this has happened with Johnny. You can't just assume that because he did something in college, or even in the preseason, that he hasn't grown in the past 13 weeks.

As you've said earlier, Shanahan won't force him to do something he's not good at like forcing him to be a pocket passer.

The reason I say I'm not sure its the right decision. I'm beginning to wonder if Johnny himself is going to be evaluated now, the rest of the way, to see whether or not we should take a QB.

I'm not even a Johnny fan, but I think that's absolutely unfair to him. To come in this late of the season, and seriously expect what we do, or don't have with him, and then use that to determine whether we should take a QB.

I don't think we'll really know what we have in Johnny for sure, until we enter a training camp with him as the guy, him getting all the reps with the first string, and getting an offense implemented around him to make that determination.

I don't really expect it to all go that well for him right now, but hey if it does, then he's proven me wrong.

this is why it makes absolutely 0 sense to change to manziel unless the browns are out of the playoff run, which is at least another 2, and probably 3 games.

if he starts the coaching staff is basically saying "we are in the middle of a playoff run, and feel as though manziel is better than hoyer" and if that happens, and if manziel fails that is absolutely on him.

contia the running game. dont bite on the play action and bump the receivers when the team goes into no huddle.. this is the formula teams are employing to shut down the browns offense.

This is not a tactic that will be effective with Manziel at the helm.

NFL defenses have caught up with Hoyer and he is making mistakes. if your gonna have a qb in there making mistakes it might as well be the rookie

Starting Manziel may be the best option to win right now as opposed to hoyer a journeyman qb

The Browns have been leading the league in Turnovers over the last few and only got 3 touchdown out of 17 or something turnovers. thats just a complete waste.

Schemes and systems only take you so far at some point you need a guy who can excute and make plays.

Its time for the Browns to move forward.

Much like Hoyer, you've pigeonholed Manziel's whole player profile from the get-go, and that's a fair shake.

General question.

What available quarterback would make you happy?

There isn't one, this is boobie's schtick.

So we should continue to watch Hoyer put shit all over the field? I get every qb has a bad game, but he's regressed every game for the past 3 games.

We were most likely eliminated on Sunday by losing to Buffalo. Mathematically we're still in the race, but Buffalo and Houston both have huge tiebreakers over us and we're looking at one of the most difficult remaining schedules (IND, CIN, @CAR, @BAL) out of the bunch of 7-5 teams. Finishing 3-1 against that slate would be impressive but potentially not enough to make the playoffs.

Even if he's inserted into the starting lineup Johnny shouldn't be blamed for the Browns not making the playoffs this year, that's absurd. Their chances of snagging a wild-card spot are slim-to-none, and Bill Barnwell from Grantland predicts the Browns to only have a 7.2% of winning the division. That's the lowest of any AFC North member, and it's before Johnny's even seeing significant reps.

i said manziel not the browns.

the poster said it wouldnt be fair to judge manziel if he doesnt succeed. I called him out, because thats bullshit. you dont make a QB change with the playoffs on the line unless you think the new QB is better

I thought B00bie liked Mariota?

It's not bullshit, you just didn't understand him.

Godfather was saying it's unfair to judge Manziel on these last four games alone. He'd preferably have an entire offseason and training camp with the 1s to properly evaluate his performance across an entire season.

But I agree, if Pettine inserts Manziel into the starting lineup it's because he gives them the best chance to win. Not that hard to imagine with Hoyer's performance the past three games.

Just evaluating the player, as I've done pretty well throughout my history here.

I've got no answers in terms of a better QB to bring in, I wish I did.

We'll see what Manziel has and whether or not he can better control his gunslinger tendencies of the past.

But a tiger isn't going to change his stripes.

Start Hoyer the rest of the season and leave the nation with that 80 yard TD drive tease from the Bills game. Email the YouTube video of that drive to Jerry Jones daily, and when he finally cracks trade Johnny to the Boys for their 1st rounder.

Really though, at what point in the day are we expecting the announcement? I'll be in and out of meetings until this evening and don't want to miss anything.

Sounds like Pettine will speak around 12:45-1 this afternoon.
