Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
AZ,

Did you notice the lack of QB draws? I felt like there were a few occasions that were perfect for Shanahan to make use of Johnny's wheels. And the resulting defensive look illustrated a QB draw would have likely gained significant yardage.

The supposed benefit of playing Johnny is to give you that option. The lack of it's use suggests that the coaching staff was confident that it wouldn't be effictive. I'm surprised it wasn't even utilized though.

I think Manziel running works better when they're unscripted, personally. I don't wan to see much in the way of designed QB runs unless they're executed like Russel Wilson in Seattle where they take advantage of a crashing defensive end to get him outside so he can protect himself and slide.

Johnny really was worse than Hoyer.

So, Mike Pettine is looking smarter and smarter for sticking with Hoyer this long.

I didn't think it could be much worse, but it really was.
We had more punts than first downs. And, when we didn't punt, it just gave Manziel more snaps to potentially get intercepted.

That was as bad a first start as I have ever seen and, as a Browns fan, we've seen some bad ones. Also, in general, the really horrific starts for young players tend to happen at the beginning of the season when they haven't had much time to acclimate to the playbook, speed, their teammates, etc. Today's game came after having practiced and played with these guys every day since August.

Yikes.

The coaching staff identified Manziel as ready to start and started him.

not a great result but I dont see Hoyer winning this game. Ive seen quarterbacks jump out the gate and then fall on their face. Ive also seen qbs fall on their face and pick up the pieces and move on.

The entire team shit to bed today. Johnny, the o-line, the D, the coaches, everybody. You can blame JFF all you want. Yes he played like crap. But my god the D gave up 200 yards rushing. The o-line played like absolute dog shit, the RBs were terrible...........
One of the worst overall games I've seen by a Browns team. Except for a couple players, no heart at all.

Not shocked he played bad though. I don't think any of us imagine it would be this bad.

But hey, he needs to get out there, and learn. I still think it was the right move to go to him, given how terrible Hoyer had been playing.

Playoff hopes usually start to sail, when you bench your starting QB. This wasn't a move made by the staff expecting it to go all smoothly, it was the result of really, really bad play by Hoyer.

I'm not sold on Manziel being garbage like some of you. We need to see more of him.

What did John Elway do in his first NFL start?

Nobody cares what Elway did in his first start, most people are speaking to a larger point of knowing exactly what is wrong with him as a player.

Nobody is solely basing it off his first appearance.

What did Jamarcus Russell do in his first NFL start?

Equally as arbitrary.

Clearly you missed the point. Point is you can't judge a guy off one game.

Like b00bs said, nobody here is doing that. We just have this spectacular failure to reinforce all of the concerns and red flags there were about Johnny coming out of school. It's this game in addition to his body of work in school.
