Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Missed the weekend, apparently I missed:

Torn defending Manziel regardless of what happens.

JSS making horrendous comparisons, exaggerating the story and passing himself off as an expert on drug rehabilitation.

Manziel still being a terrible QB regardless of whether or not he drinks.

Can anyone confirm?

The comparison was in reference to X's theory that people are allowed to do said drug or drink alchohol if it's in moderation when the entire point of most peoples entrance into rehabilation is because they cannot handle doing these things in moderation.

That is asinine and I'll stand by that.

FWIW, local airwaves getting wind of the Johnny at Town Hall "story". Everyone is saying he was drinking "boxed water".. No alcohol story yet. Now Max's story... That's a bit different.

Well.. I hope, for more than one reason, that Johnny is "allowed" to have drinks like it's being speculated about. If Max saw something as well, then it means Johnny is almost assuredly drinking again. I get that it's a bad look, but if it's in-line with his rehabilitation, I'm not going to judge.

What I do know is that he should get in front of this before it becomes a headline; @The Oi I don't think it's a story quite yet... It's news only here, really. Johnny can quash the whispering around him by just addressing the nature of the rehab.

On a side note, if Johnny isn't supposed to be out drinking, that will be the 2nd teammate that Haden has been out drinking with who wasn't supposed to be drinking at all... That's more concerning to me, as a Browns fan, than Johnny boozing.

For the record, I didn't see anything first hand. I heard he was doing shots after game 5 from someone I trust. Then a couple days later someone is saying the identical thing happened again at Town Hall. Guilty in a court of law? No. Guilty in my mind? Yes.
I just wanted to make sure you don't think I actually saw it myself.

For those saying - "who cares"? I'd say - his owner, his coaches, most of his teammates and many of his fans. I don't care if he was in there for coke addiction or obsessive masturbation, coming out of months of rehab and doing shots in public is just stupid. There isn't a quality rehab facility in the country that would say that's acceptable behavior a month after getting out. He lost the trust of everyone during the season. He was labeled a party boy. Going to rehab seemed like a nice attempt at showing a willingness to change...most teammates were willing at that point to give him a second chance. Doing shots right after rehab, if he did them, is going to piss of every teammate that wanted him to change and take his job more seriously.

@Maximus appreciate the clarity. I didn't know and wasn't trying to insinuate anything, but I do believe you when you put something out there.

This is just the beginning, though. Regardless of whether or not he's drinking, Johnny is going to have the whispers happening all around him whenever he's at or near a place that serves alcohol. Until he says one way or another (whether or not he's allowed to drink), it's going to be compelling drivel around here.

X is right, teaching moderation is usually a better option than the 12 step program.

The 12 step program isn't designed to work IMO, its designed to brainwash more people to get closer with Jesus.

It's not a good idea for anyone fresh out of rehab to be belly up to a bar at night whether you are drinking Shirley Temples or red bull and vodkas. He's putting himself in situations where temptation is great. To me that does not sound like a smart tactic given recovering addicts are pretty fragile people shortly following rehab stays.

as for this "allowed" thing
If Johnny was placed into phase 1 of the NFL Substance abuse program then he would have to submit to a multiude of drug and alcohol testing as well as get evaluated and determined if he is an alcoholic. If after 90 days it is determined he is not an alcoholic then he is out of phase one.

If Johnny is out of rehab and cleared the NFL substance abuse program He can drink when he pleases on his own time.

If he had been determine an alcoholic and was entered into the NFL substance abuse program then he would of went into phase 2 which requires sobriety for at least 2 years.

We dont know if Manziel went through withdrawal in treatment but its appearing as he did not and thats a big part of determining whether someone has a mental and or physical dependency on alcohol.

Going to the bar and doing shots is not an off field infraction.

keyword here is Addict. this isn t a football game we as fans dont sit on the sidelines deciding when he should drink or not or whether he should drink.
This kind of second guessing and labeling is exactly why more adults dont seek out help on their own.

Johnny missed what one meeting which didnt appear to be alcohol related and one treatment that most definitely related to alcohol.

The 2nd part is pure speculation. No one knows how many meetings he missed. He missed at least one. The fact that Browns security had to break into his house and drag him into the facility kind of suggests alcohol was involved from the night before.

If you check yourself into rehab, you are by definition an addict. You cannot control yourself with something (alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, etc) and you are seeking help controlling those urges. I'm not familiar with X's alternative recovery program but any program I've ever heard of including the one my cousin battles every day is no drugs or alcohol ever at any time. They also try to avoid putting themselves into situations where they will be tempted, especially when they are recently removed from a recovery program.

good to see nothing in this thread has changed since the end of last season.

I don't have the exact stats, but he missed or was late to a lot more than one meeting/treatment. Double digits easy...

Why would this even become public information?

I don't know that it will. Maybe it will when he gets cut or during his 30 for 30? To my knowledge it hasn't become public information. I've talked to enough people to know it's true though.

Big story here is that Haden is a busy man. I saw him at Society on Saturday as well. But he is good at football so.....

Football is an antitrust. theres a certain amount of transparency. If a beat reporter is hanging out at the facilities and they sort of catch these things for example. just because something isnt reported doesnt mean someone outside the team didnt know about it.
