Manziel simply wasn't mature enough to handle being an NFL player let alone a starting QB. By all accounts, he's taking things seriously now and putting the time in. Good for him. That was a major concern I had with him all along and so far this off season it seems like he's trying to improve there. That's a good step in the right direction and I hope it continues.
His performance on the field has been up and down but on the whole it seems like it's been mostly down. He basically blew off his rookie year and essentially he's starting over again so this is his true rookie season. You have to expect a lot of bad and some good from rookies, hopefully as the season goes on he builds off the good and shows improvements.
I still have concerns about his size and ability. He's simply not big enough and his other talents just do not outweigh the lack of physical tools the way Russell Wilson's do. I've said this before, hopefully I'm wrong, I want to be wrong, but I just don't see Manziel being a viable NFL QB in this league. His ceiling IMO is Jeff Garcia, SF years. If he reaches that I'd be overjoyed. However, that's the best case scenario IMO. I don't think he reaches nearly close to that level.
