Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"I knew when Orakpo said I was shit we were gunna have a good play."

I'm so happy right now.

Way too soon to anoint him. I still have my doubts on him. But, I thought he played really well today. He made some mistakes, but that's expected. I thought he got handcuffed by some shitty play calling at times, and his receivers aren't that good.

Benjamin is a legit deep threat though.

I know I'm going to get called a downer but I wasn't incredibly impressed by most of Johnny's game.

He showed the same big play ability even his haters acknowledge but aside from two horribly covered deep balls that he chucked up Mike Evans style, he was 6/13 for 62 yards with 2 fumbles that both could've been turned over. Against a team that isn't garbage, that's probably a losing formula.

That said, he absolutely deserves to start the rest of the season to see if he can keep improving. I don't see McCown offering any upside whatsoever.

I don't think it makes you a downer, but a realistic. I still don't think he can be a QB in this league. He didn't really show me that. Don't get me wrong, those throws to Benjamin were really good.

I have no problem with how Manziel played today though. He just still hasn't shown me that I think he can be a seriously good QB in this league yet. I think he still gets handcuffed by some shitty ass play calling at times today though. He still gets happy feet in the pocket, and I just don't know if he can be a pocket passer in this league.

But he wasn't bad at all today. He was one of the bright spots.

I am fine letting him start now though. Let him show us more. He's at least earn the right to start. Helped us generate a win. McCown has no future here. I don't think Johnny does either, but it doesn't hurt to see since he at least showed us something today.

Lets subtract his big plays to make him look bad.

Yeah not a fan of that take.

not really seeing how hitting a receiver 40 yards in stride is 'chucking it up mike evans style'

Not to speak for Spectre, but I think the jist of his post was that Johnny throws a nice long ball against single coverage. It's what he did in college and it's certainly nice he hasn't lost it. However, the concerns with Manziel has always been progressions and sustaining a drive with conventional pocket plays. Spectre was pointing out he didn't really answer those questions, with the Browns only amassing 274 total yards. But, I'll take those big plays against single coverage. No complaints.

A lot of him not amassing a lot of yards was because of the game plan being conservative.

I felt like his biggest flaws (seeing the rush, running for his life) looked much improved upon today. I'd like to see more.

Also didn't help the Browns time of possession was 10 minutes less than the Titans
