Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm back to typing what I believed at the time of the draft.

Manziel right now:

Here's a guy who seemed great as an improviser in college, but we have seen time and time again that improvising is a cherry on top for QBs. They still have to operate out of a pro style offense in the pocket.

What Manziel might become in a few years, if he can operate an offense from the pocket:

Here's a guy who failed at first, but after second and third chances elsewhere he figured out how to run an NFL offense despite his measurable. His ceiling was still an average NFL QB due to his measurables, but his ad lib play made him a bit of a legend and useful in the NFL for a very long time.

Who the fuck spells Timm with two Ms?

An average NFL QB would be the best QB we've had in twenty years. :chuckle:

As someone born in 1992, the Browns have been to the playoffs what, 2 times in my entire damn life? End the madness, get an actual QB. Our last two 1st round QBs were a grandpa and a party animal trapped in a chihuahua's body.

It's almost like to be in charge of drafting for the Browns you have to have a lobotomy first.

I'm glad Manziel is starting because that means he'll likely start the rest of the season and then we can end this experiment and find an actual quarterback for next year.
Pretty much my view. I really don't care how week or hour bad he does: every single he game he starts brings it one step closer to the end*. Until then, root for the defense to play up to their abilities and for something to emerge in the running game.

*and I'm about to break

Omg a Timm Rosenbach reference! As a youngster who grew up in AZ when the team magically appeared (I was 6 I didn't understand the whole moving teams thing) I can still oddly enough rattle off the QBs of that depressing era (Neil Lomax, Rosenbach, Tom Dupa Tupa)...

The problem with Johnny is that most of his strengths are complementary skills and his weaknesses are a QB's bread and butter. Scrambling for 30 yards every once in a while or getting away from a guy and heaving a bomb don't make up for the struggles he has within the pocket.

Braylon did the same thing - he made the hard plays look easy and the easy plays look hard. Those guys are good for highlight reels but don't last long.

I can't say that he'll never be good in the pocket but has proven to be generally skittish and looks to bail way too early.

I'd much rather find a guy who can play quarterback the way it has to be played in this league than try to fit an offense around a guy who can't do it.

So question about the whole Merril Hoge pissing match:

Did Johnny fuck his wife? Because while he has a legit argument about Johnny reverting back to his running instincts when the shit hits the fan, the way he's going about it it's like Johnny fucked his wife.

I mean I didn't see Jim Brown continue to shit on Trent Richardson after every game he played. Call your shot and move on.

ESPN has to fill 24 hours of sports entertainment, and NFL teams only play once a week. Letting Hoge keep going with his heel turn on Cleveland fans the Steelers/Browns rivalry flames. And while people still get off on Manziel news across the country... saying positive things about his meh performances wouldn't be genuine either.

Yeah, I mean I don't expect him to say positive things, especially if he doesn't believe them, but he talks about Johnny with so much anger that it's just bizarre to me. I guess I just need to remind myself that ESPN left journalistic ethics way in the rear view mirror and aren't afraid to have one of their analysts as a part of the story.

I've been saying it since we drafted him.

This kid is the future.

Well, he looks like a real, actual NFL quarterback. That's definitely a step in the right direction.

Absolutely nobody knows what they are talking about....except for me.

As I've said since day 1.....give a guy a full season before you condemn him or anoint him.
