Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very impressive letter. I believe him, and I appreciate him laying it all out there like that.

He has made some awful decisions, but it's very clear that some of his suspensions have been in a bit of a gray area. I feel for him a bit. I've made some shitty decisions in my day as well.

Not sure how the NFL can legally suspend someone for consuming a substance that is both legal and a sponsor of the institution itself...pretty fucked up if you ask me.

They had better not show one more beer commercial, show one more shot of teams popping champagne, or serve alcohol at games.

What if Gordon had come out and said "I was drinking Coors Light, the official beer of the NFL"? Maybe then they would be okay with it.

Why are they hell-bent on making it so hard for players to play anyways? (weed-danger debate aside) Gordon could become one of the brightest stars in the league, people would tune in to watch him play. More money for the NFL.

Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me I guess.

General overcompensation to getting blasted for neglecting the character issues of their players in the past.

I bet he was high as fuck when he wrote that letter.

You mean while someone else wrote it?

Nonsense, that article was written with almost no journalistic style.

If Josh Gordon didn't write it, maybe Tony Grossi did....

There always is some reason why he's really just a victim of circumstance and should be given special treatment. Sorry Josh, that's not believable. You choose your actions. You keep doing this to yourself.

I don't think he said otherwise. Nor is he making excuses and arguing that he should be permitted to avoided the consequences of his decisions. He's made a bunch of bad decisions, accepted responsibility for them, and understands there are consequences. I don't think anything he said should make the slightest difference in the punishment he's received.

What he's objecting to is not the consequences of his bad decisions, but the bogus conclusions some people have drawn regarding him as a human being. And I think that's a fair place for him to draw the line.
He doesn't want to admit he has a problem but he does.
He clearly has a problem with delayed gratification/poor decision making. I think he'd agree to that. But again, consider the specific things he mentioned in his letter that had been said by Barkley (who I normally like), Stephen A. Smith, and others. They're drawing conclusions about him overall as a person without having ever had a meaningful conversation with him, or knowing any of his background. He's sticking up for himself on that level, without avoiding responsibility for the bad decisions he made.

Two different things going on here.

Sure Barkley, Steven A and Carter don't know him or know the exact circumstances around him but anyone with eyes can see this guy is self destructive. The only person who doesn't get that seems to be Gordon.

He's placing his anger at those guys who have a public forum and are calling Gordon on the carpet for his behavior when the only one he has to blame and be furious with is himself.

All I see is an article full of boohoo, I'm not the bad guy nonsense.

Josh, you want people in the media to quit making accusations about your life, you, etc? Quit giving them reasons to do so. Get your shit together.

I'm not a bad guy, it's just that I grew up around everyone else doing it. So it's just normal. I'm not an addict. It's not an excuse, but it is.

God I hope they cut him.

Root causes and excuses are often the same thing, guess it just depends on your tolerance level and experience in dealing with similar issues.

Sorry, I'm a very sympathetic person but that came off as one of the most pathetic displays of passive aggressive excuse making I have ever seen, in the sports world or otherwise. I am embarrassed for Josh Gordon and whoever wrote that for him. I don't know if the guy is an addict or not, maybe he isn't, but he clearly doesn't "get it." At all. The sad part is the guy has been busted so many times and now he comes out with this heartfelt letter meant to get people back on his side. What does he want? A sixth chance? A seventh chance? Jesus. My upbringing was so hard, woe is me, blah blah blah...so many super successful athletes and otherwise who come from the same situations (or worse) as Josh Gordon. There comes a time where you need to step up and take responsibility and do what you have to do. I can give this guy a second chance, a third chance even, but after that it just gets tired.

Look I'm not saying execute the guy or something but there comes a time when you need to pay for your actions. I think he's made enough mistakes to earn whatever is coming to him (ie forced out of the NFL, or whatnot).

Just embarrassed for this man. I'm fine with holding onto him but it wouldn't surprise me if he never plays in the NFL again.

THANK YOU. I'm getting lambasted in here for questioning the credibility of his article.

Shame on any fan for buying anymore of his bullshit. Sorry, the buck stops here for me. I don't care if he's [FINALLY] being honest. I was dumb enough to believe his excuses/pleas for forgiveness the first 3 times he fucked up. No more.

Guy can't be trusted. He camouflaged a collection of excuses by saying "This isn't meant to be an excuse but..."

How does that make it "personal rage" for me? I've backed this guy for how many years? Yet, let down as a fan time and time again. I'm not buying a word of his crap.
