JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching the growth of JR this season has been special. The talk back when we first aquired him and Shump was that he'd be dealt by the trade deadline, he was the throw in. How wrong we all(most, some) of us were. He became that outside threat to go with Love and KI and was a better defender than we all expected. He embraced Blatt and became another brother to the rest of his teammates.

You can see the emotion on his face last night and tell that he's become a Clevelander. His ousting from the purgatory that is Knicks basketball placed a chip on his shoulder and his performance is indeed an I told you so to the Knicks FO.

Smith does appear to be the throw in with regard to this trade but I think the organization just grew tired of trying to make it work with a guy we should never have drafted. They just made a HUGE commitment to Kyrie Irving looking toward the future. He and Dion have been fighting for the same role for years and it's been a one way fight.

Smith is not going to come here and bicker with Kyrie Irving over his role. He has proven to accept it and has been proven to flourish in it. The word flourish does not exist in NY right now so as far as I'm concerned, you can just throw away his stats this season. He's a guy that's going to see a lot of quality looks and he'll have a defined role. He's also somebody that you could plug in the starting lineup if injuries knock out some of our depth. If you look at his game logs there are some pretty impressive scoring outbursts from him if you discount this season.

Damn, I was on point with this one when the trade went down. Lot of skeptics in the beginning of the thread. I love this guy.

JR is one of those "tough-guy/sensitive-dudes". Poker faced on outside, but lots of feeling lies beneath. I believe he senses a true connection to this team and, in particular, his coach. Not going on anything but a personal hunch, but I think he sees David Blatt as somewhat of a "father figure".

Amazing, that had to be an emotional moment for JR... That is a real hug, not just a formality to hug back. Those two look like they genuinely care for each other... They have always been close... From Blatt calling JR a "blessing" to coach and JR always singing to Blatt's praises... I love this team, it really is a family here.
