JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I mean, he does have a sixth man year award, so I don't think he will into Dion.

JR will accept his role no matter what.

And that's why I'm not as worried, but history says the Cavs will tell him to take shots.like Dion or not, he was genuinely doing what the Cavs told him to and Jr and our current bench situation are both too similar to Dion and the bench situation a few weeks ago

He won't, JR is being himself, but probably the best version of JR we can see. He does take bad shots, he does do some dumb stuff on the floor, but it's easy to look the other way, when he brings literally everything else we need out of him better than Dion ever did.

I don't want to make this a bashing Dion rant either. I think Dion is a talented player, that can one day be a pretty good basketball player. He was never going to fit here, period, regardless though.

JR Smith is probably for the first time in his career, in the role he's meant to be. A 4th option. Think about it, most his career he's been 'Melo's right arm man. You get those two gunslingers together, its going to be chaos.

JR to me is not a stupid basketball player at all, though. He's actually pretty smart, has pretty good basketball awareness. Better than I thought, but he's a gunslinger, and he sometimes can't help himself. Kinda reminds me of Brett Favre, in the basketball equivalent. Where Favre was never a dumb QB, he could read defenses, but he just couldn't help himself and he loves taking that "big shot".

Sure, some of the shots he takes does make me cringe, but overall, I can still live with it.

He's definitely not this gigantic cancer, black hole he's gotten a reputation for. I am sure he can be in the worst of circumstances, but the guy is a pretty good player.

As we win, I think he can be kept it check.

Dion's first instinct is to put the ball on the floor.

Jr's is to hoist a shot immediately. And, as he has said/shown, if he doesn't have the shot he'll swing it pretty quickly.

JR and Dion can both get hot in a hurry...but beyond that, I don't think their games are at all similar. They score in very different ways.

I think the way JR scores is way, way more suited to this team than the way Dion scores. What JR does is what we all hoped Dion would eventually learn to do.

JR is a true microwave. Dion is more like...you know.. fuck. I really don't know what he brings.

Putting Jr into bench is like a choice of putting D.Lee to bench and start Draymond Green. It gives the bench more scoring and gives the starting unit more defence. It simply puts a balance to the team between bench and starting unit. So Blatt will definitely do that when Shumpert is out of the minutes restriction.

Id be fine with Shump off the bench. Chemistry doesn't show up on any stat but LeBron has great chemistry with him already. Delly does too

As long as he is taking 3's instead of long two's ill be happy. Guys like smith and waiters are going to take some bad shots. But the difference is shot selection. statistically speaking a contested 3 is worth the risk a long 2 isn't. Hence why we are better with JR he is shooting 3's without hesitation or passing. There is very little standing with the ball and trying to create something.

I don't think Shump can do any more than 15 min. per game at this time so he won't be starting for a few games. My understanding is the doctors will be monitoring his shoulder for another 2 weeks and slowly increase his allowed minutes each game if there are no difficulties. I think JR will definitely start until that period is over, especially since he is shooting well.

If you leave this guy open, he can torch you.

This much we can agree on. No guarantees but when his shot goes up, you know it scares guys more than waiters off balanced chucks

Smith has supreme confidence in his shooting ability and shoots a good percentage from 3pt land. So JR's defender can't slack off of him or you know the shot is going up and very likely it's going in. I would think this helps keep the paint open and limit the chances that Lebron, Kyrie or Kevin are double teamed too often.
