JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Losing Love and Smith just obliterates our spacing. I have no idea how we compensate. We worried all year about this team relying to much on LeBron iso, and now they're gonna have to do it to beat the Bulls.

We'll really have to play differently on offense and defense.

Since the All-Star game, we've been making 13 threes a game at at 40% clip which is good for the most lethal 3 point attack in the game's history. Love and JR took 12 threes a game but put in Shump and TT and all that spacing is gone. We're going to get endless ISO probably. Miller may be able to come in and make threes, but he cannot defend which hurts since JR had become a reliable perimeter defender. I'm sure we were going to rest James on defense by letting JR take Butler, but now, James will have probably have to guard him.

We play 8 guys with one being Delly. Now two of those guys aren't there. The Matrix and Miller are going to have to turn back the clock and LeBron and Kryie are going to have to play their A games.

This fucking sucks. Fuck you, Olynk.

I'm going to guess a 1 game suspension. It was a slap... Olynik ripped Love's shoulder out of the socket and nothing.

Well if we're going on the resulting injury, then the slap led to, at least, a sprained knee for Crowder.

Again, the league has to take the whole series into account, and the fact that the Cavs finally had enough after getting beaten up for three straight games. If they do, JR might get out of this with a two-game suspension.

But the NBA has rarely been merciful when it comes to scrapping. They went by the book in '07, and screwed the Suns out of a fair shot at the Finals. The one thing in our favor is LeBron: the league would hate to lose him in the second round. Let's hope ratings > discipline in this instance.

Best case scenario would be:

- JR suspended for only one game
- Love can somehow play the first game against Chicago
- Shump/Miller will step up in game 1, so that JR's absence won't hurt our spacing that much

This is on the level of Artest's elbow, unfortunately.

This could be really bad. Only thing JR has going for him is that he has a reputation as a "silly" idiot whereas Artest had a reputation as a "violent" idiot.

Whiteside got 1 game for this. Granted it wasn't the face. But it was blatantly intentional, near the back of the head and neck, and not a basketball play at all.

JR's was way worse...it was essentially a hay-maker.

You guys forget Mikey lives for these moments.

In all seriousness, Chicago actually plays someone that Mike could guard reliably, Mike Dunleavy. If JR has to sit out a game and if Love is out for a game, I would start Miller which leaves the following matchups...

Rose-Kyrie
Butler-LeBron
Dunleavy-Miller
Noah-TT
Gasol-Mozgov

Bench:
Chi: Gibson, Mirotic, Snell, Brooks
Cle: Shumpert, Marion, Dellly, Perkins

I'd have Marion or Perkins as the first big off the bench depending on matchups but I think Marion would matchup great with Mirotic if we need to use him there and just make sure TT, Perk or Moz is in to deal with whoever the other big is. The rest of Chicago's wings don't really scare me in Hinrich and Snell. When you want to give LeBorn a break from Butler, put Shump on him.

I think the Chicago series is a series we could give them a ton of problems going small as well as their "small" players are pretty terrible outside of Rose and Butler. Butler and Snell are the only guys that can guard anybody. I think we can take care of Chicago even if we're without JR for a game and Love for a few games although I'm definitely hoping for the best in both cases.

I think the league needs to add a ref or 2 to these games because yes they have been absolutely terrible in all series.

Not defending JR but Crowder fouled him what? 3 times before he took a swing?

These refs were just horrible.

Exactly. And this is just one isolated play. The league can take a day or two to gather evidence. They owe it to the Cavs to be as thorough as possible.

Charles, Shaq, Kenny and anybody else claiming this was so egregious that it deserves a 5-10 games supsension is out of their minds.

Players have been suspended for 65 games this year.

Only 5 were for more than one game. All of those were for violating the Drug Policy or pleading guilty to crimes.

All the rest were 1 game suspension, including but not limited to.

Marcus Smarts nut punching Matt Bonner.

James Harden's ball kick on Bron.

Shaun Livingston nut punching Dirk.

Joel Freeland head butting Livingston.

All of those happened within the last month.

JR will be suspended for one game. We will see him in game two.

Lol yeah, exactly the same. Artest did everything but shooting people.

JR's was way worse...it was essentially a hay-maker.

Let's break it down.

1) Events leading up to the contact: JR was fouled about 3 times before he took a swing. It looks like Whiteside, at least based on that video, just decided he would run Olynyk over. Edge: JR's decision to attempt contact doesn't look as bad here.

2) Nature of the contact: Whiteside ran at him arms out and hit him in the back of the shoulders/neck. He knew exactly where he would make contact. JR threw an arm thinking he would make contact but he didn't know where. Edge: About even.

3) Cheapshot? Whiteside's was a clear cheap shot. Olynyk had no idea it was coming. Crowder was behind JR. He didn't see it coming. But the fact Crowder was physically behind JR makes it a little more difficult for it to be a cheapshot. Edge: About even

4) Result of the contact: Olynyk was fine. Crowder was injured. Edge: JR's is much worse.

I still don't see JR getting more than 1 game. Plus this is a playoff game.

Probably a massive fine though. Which Gilbert will pay.
