Just Moved To Chicago

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Depends on what you're looking for.

My advice would be not to let the winter phase you. Winter's cold as balls, but it just means you need to drink harder. There are a million bars in your neighborhood. For example, I believe the Cubby Bear, over by Wrigley, is a Browns Backers Bar.

Some of the bars are nice, some suck, but at the end of the day, it'll all about where you are in life. Personally, I'm not a fan of the McGee's, John Barleycorn's, Lincoln Park bar thing. I'm either higher end (once every so often) or I hang out in dives, listed to music or shoot free pool.

Then again, I'm married, have an infant, and am, as a direct result of the aforementioned, pretty lame, so any advice I give you should be taken with a grain of salt.

Cubby bear is a browns backer bar? I like that place even more now. I lived in nw indiana for 10 years and used to go to chicago alot. Went to several cubs games a year and the cubby bear and Murphy's UTB where the 2 bars we used to hang out at after the game (or during if we got kicked out, lol...long story)

I haven't been to Chicago for eight years, but I remember the eggplant parmesean at Harry Carey's Resterant like I tasted it last week.

3rd floor of the Cubby Bear is a great Browns backer bar...

Buddy Guys is awesome. I was there one night and Buddy Guy was playing. If that wasn't great enough, Clapton walked in unannounced and joined him...amazing night.

If you have to entertain, customers love Gibson's...

When I lived in down there, would hit up Cubby Bear for some Browns games. It was great - I grew up in Westlake, and saw some random people there from my high school that I didn't even know lived in Chicago. This is going back about 6 years, but the crowds were big and energetic. Every TV upstairs had the game on, with the sound up loud. I know a few other Browns bars in the area if you want to know. There is also several Ohio State bars. I caught the Miami - OSU championship game in '02 at BDubs in Lincoln Park. Good time.

Max mentioned Gibson's on Rush. One of my favorite italian restaurants is right across the street from it - Carmine's. Gets very crowded there as well. That whole area (Rush/Division) is a nice place to hang, albeit "touristy." If you like to people watch and see $100,000 + cars, this is your place. There is an Irish bar across from Carmine's that has a sidewalk patio. Nice place to have some drinks and relax for a bit, and see the action.

The great thing about living where you do....there are many pods of bars in the neighborhoods around Chicago. You can cab it to a certain area and hop around to 5 or more different bars. Cabs are cheap, and the best way to get around. You can have a different flavor in Chicago every weekend for a whole year. If you like live music, many, many options. Lounges - all over. Even hotel lobby bars downtown are fun. There are many websites to check for activities in Chicago. Metromix has a good Chicago site. There are festivals down in your area every weekend in the Summer. Check there for what bands are playing at the festivals - its a great scene with the street closed down, and band on each end jamming, and no open container law.
