Keith Bogans to Cavs, Now Traded to Philly

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That's a really, really, really clever trade by Griffin. It's nice how much flexibility we have going forward with an already stacked team.

Here is what interested about Bogan's contract. He wasn't signed to play basketball on his latest contract. He was just signed to balance trade salaries. Every one expected him to get waived. Now he might get a ring. $10Mil and a ring. I love this country!!!

Rod (Chicago) The Keith Bogans contract may be my favorite in sports history. Do you remember anyone being that lucky?

Well, bad GMs have made a lot of guys very lucky, but Bogans' situation is pretty impressive. This trade was huge for him because he's likely to stay on the Cavaliers' roster all season and pick up the full $5.3 million to go with last year's $5.1 million. That would, I'm pretty sure, be by far the most ever for a player included in a sign-and-trade. Keith Van Horn, the most famous example, only got $4.3 million as a gift.

If you were an agent, why would you ever agree to a player contract that was unguaranteed? You'd basically just be asking to get traded at some point.

Ha, but he's collected 10 million on a deal that Bogans had no right earning. Bogans at best, is a minimum salary player, at worst, DLeaguer, Euro player. He'd be lucky to see 1 million overseas.

The smart thing was the two unguaranteed years. That way he had value as a contract not to be cut right away. Still a risk but on the chance a team doesn't find anything appetizing, you just made your client win the jackpot by getting better then MLE money for a year.

The thing is, per the CBA, a sign and trade has to be for at least 3 years, but only the first year needs to be guaranteed.

So Boston had to carry his dead weight salary for a year, but eventually they were able to cash it in on the Cavs' deal. What they got from the Cavs you should really consider as part of the return for Pierce/Garnett.

If I understand this all correctly, and I know people have said it isn't possible unless we can stay under the apron, but we might be a legitimate S&T threat next off season. People are just saying Bogans, and Haywood for x, but realistically it would include Dion, likely our draft pick, and possibly the Memphis pick. That might not be enough to keep us under the apron, but I am sure it would be pretty close. We have to be talking something like 22 or 23 million outgoing for 17 or 18 incoming.

If we could just sell one guy on a guaranteed title, then we are looking good. What would Gasol's max even be?

Then there is the issue of Tristan. How much will we be paying him. Will he give us enough room for a max player?

The most likely scenario is obviously a trade for a guy under contract, but I don't think we can completely rule out the possibility that we could S&T.

Can anyone else see us trading for Bledsoe next yr if Dion doesn't work? I know camp is near but the Bledsoe deal happened right before we got this trade to go through.

Completely random but I could see him being a target if we look to move Dion.

Griffin has helped the Celtics stockpile assets? The only thing worth a damn that he gave them might be the first rounder, and that's about it. He dumped a bunch of crap on them and worthless 2nd rounder picks.

Exactly. Players 8 through 15 on a roster can be picked up easily and they play so little that they have almost no impact on your record. Getting players 1 through 5 are the tough ones and nothing Cleveland gave Boston is likely to do that for the Celtics. If you look at every player Cleveland traded--with the exception of Wiggins--none of them would be playing major minutes if added back to the current roster.

Zeller had to be traded because he had a big mouth, but Zeller would see minutes as the backup and sometime starter when Andy gets hurt.

This is the absolute dream scenario. No better fit for this team as currently constructed. Could you imagine a starting lineup of Irving, Waiters, James, Love, and Jordan? And still a bench with TT, AV, Delly, and more? We'd set the single season win total.

Only one way to stop a team like that -- foul DeAndre Jordan on every play. It would work pretty well too.

It's really hard to fathom what has happened. It seems just like yesterday day we were watching the team lose by 55 at the Lakers.

And a few days before that, we were hoping that Larry Hughes would be the Pippen to Lebron's Jordan, or Antawn Jamison would be that elusive star who puts us over the top to a championship. Remember the crap they tried to surround Lebron with the first time here? Compared to what he has now, it's unbelievable.
