I think Olynyk intentionally made a non basketball play to keep Love from getting to the ball. And therefore, he is responsible for his actions and the play was "dirty"

However, I just don't believe he rushed in with the "intent" to injure. Now his non basketball play and negligence makes him responsible for the injury, but I just don't believe that he had the intent to injure, even if he knew what he was doing was wrong.

And none of this is a defense of Olynyk at all, but I suspect it will be treated as such and I understand the dynamic as to why.

You guys, Olynyk clearly didn't do this on purpose! He's Canadian! What other evidence do you need?

He's white, too!

Damage control... sure. But that JR is nothing but class. Kudos to him.

lol. He's not really going to check on Crowder.

It was so intentional it's almost comical. And JR knows it. If I were him I'd not even bother trying to mask it.

Yeah, him swinging is arm back was intentional. But I just don't think JR knew or tried to smash his face. CHHouder was falling and JR didn't even look before swinging backwards.

What other purpose is there in giving an armbar if not to cause harm or injury? To check for hidden tattoos or needle tracks?

You swing your arm backwards like that with an idea of where the other guy is then you had better be prepared to live with the consequences if you end up hitting his face.

Same stuff with Olynyk applies to Smith. Whether or not he meant to injure Crowder doesn't matter. He made a non-basketball play with full intention of at least hitting Crowder (if not the head). He should be punished accordingly.

I'm not sure what you're looking at Mir...

First he comes down on his shoulder with the inner-elbow while holding Kevin's arm. This was the first intentional means of injuring Kevin's shoulder.

Then, if you notice the clasping of the inner-arm with the elbow pointed down at a 90 degree angle, the momentary pause to set the grip, then the fast downward jerking motion with his shoulder which either results in the dislocation or, if his shoulder was already dislocated, then this couldn't have helped matters.

Looking at this over and over, I can't help but to agree with Love. It was 100% intentional. He took two attempts at it before Kevin Love was yelling for him to get off.

But he did smash him the face, which is all that really matters. He swung at him. If you looked at the video in the JR Smith thread, its pretty damning.
