If his shoulder was totally fucked what would be the point of getting a second opinion?

Nope. But because of what I heard I subscribe closer to the theory that it was assessed that he could indeed play and is just making sure.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks, I appreciate the response, and thanks for sharing your info. Really hope K-Love's okay.

Playing devil's advocate here.

Kobe got a 2nd opinion for his torn labrum before opting for surgery and missing the rest of the season. It happens.

I know this is like comparing apples to monkeys However when I was in college I landed on someone foot while playing basketball. I couldn't walk and was taken to the hospital. Initial x rays showed a broken foot, and almost a complete tear of a ligament. I was told surgery would be required and would be in a cast for 6 weeks. I was told to get a second opinion. Second opinion and x ray showed no broken bone, and only partial tear of ligament.

Like I said not a great comparison but the second opinion can sometimes be.better

Outside of someone leaking info, we're not going to know anything until the Cavs' disclose the extent of his injury - good or bad. That's the way this works. He's getting a second opinion, so the Cavs will respect his privacy while he determines what's best for his career going forward.

All I know is that you very rarely seek a second opinion if it's good news. But, hey, at least there's a chance, however miniscule.

It was revealed that the labrum was torn BEFORE the second opinion though wasn't it?

I honestly can't remember clearly.

EDIT: Yes, it was indeed revealed before the second opinion occured. See this: http://articles.latimes.com/2003/jun/06/sports/sp-kobe6

Double EDIT: And kobe played 10 games in the playoffs with that sucker.

He desperately wants to get back on the court and help his team, and will do so if a doctor says he won't risk permanent damage?

Really want to see Olynyk tear an ACL the first game they play the Celts next year. I'd bring back Perkins for the sole purpose of making this happen.

Judging from yesterday's game, JR's your man for that particular errand.

On NBA radio, Eddie Johnson, an advocate of hard physical play in the NBA, says that it is common for players to lock arms when fighting for position/rebounds. He went on to say that players also know that a wrenching motion to the opponents' locked arm will likely result in an injury. He added that he has never seen a player clamp on with their second hand and make a wrenching motion.
