Though he isn't a rim protector, his overall defense is not bad. The Toronto Raptors game was a textbook example of how Mo destroys our defense. Kyle Lowry was able to blow by Mo with no effort creating scoring opportunities for himself or others all game. Love was very effective on defense in the Atlanta game when he didn't have to cover for Mo's blown coverage. If we had Delly in the Toronto game we would have won it easily.

I don't understand this. How many points did Scola get on jump shots that absolutely weren't "one on

First play of the game, JR gets lost following DeRozan through traffic. JR is horribly out of position, Love gets caught on the baseline trapping DeRozan because of this. Ball gets kicked out to Scola, pump fake, JR flies by, Takes a step and knocks a jumper with Love closing. If Love comes any earlier, DeRozan is getting a layup. (Next play Love gets a hand in DeRozan's face after a pick, and DeRozan misses the jumper).

10:03 mark, Scola arguably travels on a spin move, then gets a ball up on the rim with Love defending that rolls in. Love certainly could have challenged it better.

8:53, Scola uses a nice move to get a jump hook off with Love not contesting as well as he could.

6:33 Another JR pick and roll that leaves TT guarding JR's man and Love guarding Biyombo directly under the basket. Scola left wide open. That's 2 plays where Love's out of position because JR is atrocious on defense.

5:47 TT is guarding Scola and Scola makes a nice Dirk-leg-esque fadeaway.

1:39 Love does a decent job of fighting for position, but Scola get too deep and makes a jump hook over Love's extended arm. Decent challenge by Love on this, but it didn't matter.

1:10 Scola knocks a 3 down on a mini-break. The Cavs' are completely lost on defense. Cunningham picks up the ball (Lowry), RJ picks up Carroll (who then gets the ball). Love is on Patrick Patterson in the corner right on him (right where you'd want him to be). Mo comes into the play late (he missed the layup that led to the mini-break), Cunningham should have switched over to Joseph to let Mo pick up Lowry, but Cunningham gets caught in no-man's land. TT has to come over to guard Joseph in the corner. Mo points to Cunningham to pick up Joseph. The ball goes to Scola who is left wide open.

So Love was responsible for 6 of those points that Scola got. 1 play was decent/good defense on him. The other two left a little to be desired.

Love's biggest problem right now is he knows how to position himself, but the guards are so terrible at slowing their guys down even slightly. Love is out of position because JR/Mo/etc. end up requiring him to be.

This is a great post. I just want to jump up to comment on how you've isolated the big problem with JR Smith - he really isn't good off the ball.if he's got to follow guys, defend cuts, picks off the ball, whatever, he loses track. JR is actually pretty good in 1-on-1 iso on the ball and seems to have been not-terrible in PnR but when he's chasing a guy through screens is certainly not a strong point.

Kevin Love told David Blatt on the sidelines to stick with the line-up that won the game tonight.

Argument over.
How many times did we hear him say his back wasn't hurting him last year? Maybe it's possible that he's a private person who doesn't air his issues to the media. Just a thought.

Blatt is the one that told the media that.

I don't think that makes it excusable at all. Kevin showing his outstanding willingness to put the team first, ahead of himself is outstanding.

But the way the team, and yes, you Blatt too, used him tonight was not excusable at all.

It's not even just the minutes, or not playing the fourth. I disagree strongly with both.

Did Kevin even have more than three shots in the second half? I know two came off broken plays.

This team still has a poor way of getting him involved on a consistent basis. They rely too much on the pick and pop with him.

LeBron 38 minutes, against a shitty team, on a back-to-back, in late November is not ideal at all.

When Blatt didn't leave Love on the floor in the fourth, and had to sub 'Bron back in early, that was his ultimate mistake.

We can't treat these November games like they're playoff games this early in the year.

How he micromanages his lineups, given what we're missing is even more critical.

Charlotte isn't a shitty team. Just like Toronto wasn't a shitty team. Why do people insist good teams are bad teams? You don't have to make the Finals to be good.

They were 9-6 on a 4 game winning streak before tonight and are strong contenders for the 5-8th spot in the East. I am also not sure why people were downplaying them.

When has Charlotte demonstrated they are good? Because they manage to be 9-7 in the early part of the season?

Take a look at their roster, and tell me with a straight face this is a good team.

This has been the trend all year. Everyone is bad except two teams. It's not true.

They also beat Chicago this season.
