That's the problem when all your best players are under 30. Young guys don't have to take pay cuts . Can't even ask them too. Now what would really help us is if Lebron took around 13 mil and if Andys deal could come down. Lebron by himself could get us at least Shumpert and Delly long term . But then again the way Lebron has played for this team I dare you to ask him to take a paycut. Dude deserves Kobe money 100%
lebron can't take a pay cut. The top players have agreed with the union that they are not going to settle for less than the max as it sets a bad negotiating example for everyone else. And they're right to have that attitude after the way they got screwed in revenue split.
Plus, it would be a hundred-millionaire saving money for a guy worth almost $5 billion, where's the justice in that? Lebron's return alone increased the Cavs franchise value by more than Gilbert could ever pay back under the salary cap.
Let's get some perspective here. Gilbert's worth $4.8 billion. If he gets a 3% return on that annually (which is much less than what he probably gets as the major equity holder in the businesses he owns) that's $144 million in straight profit right there. If he can't afford a couple of tens of millions of dollars extra to hold together an actual or potential championship team, fans should lynch him. That's not even getting into that the investment just on its own is almost certainly worth it -- the increase in the profits and franchise value of the Cavs by being champions vs also-rans would be considerable I imagine. I wonder how much extra profit they get just for each additional playoff series they are in.
