Kings Staying Put (was Sonics coming back)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, people have said that expansion isn't an option because the current owners don't want to give up more of the revenue pie to another owner. Plus we would have 31 teams... where is the 32nd?

Quebec City is building an arena... of course that's for NHL.

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't the league operated with an odd number of teams before? I seem to remember several periods where there were odd number of teams in the league.

What if by "options" Hansen means Stern gave him the promise of Expansion? :)

That's even less likely than a team being relocated. The way NBA finances work, there'd be more of a push to contract the number of teams than expansion.

The correct move is to contract the Pacers, freezing out the St Louis Spirits group of a 1/7 share of TV money in perpetuity . Then offer expansion to Seattle, and relocate another team(the Bucks) to Indy at some point in a few years.

David Stern must hate Seattle for some reason. This would never be an issue if the Sonics were never allowed to leave Seattle in the first place. Still hard to believe the current Thunder owners were permitted to lie and sleaze their way out of Seattle without the league doing anything.
NBA also screwed up with the whole Charlotte/New Orleans move and are now stuck with 2 markets that aren't really supporting their teams and questions remain over the long term health of those franchises in their current locations.

Also should be remembered that Sacramento is the 4th city for the Kings franchise. Not like it's been there from the start. Still, I'm not crazy about cities losing teams so can't be that upset. Just has become a messed situation that the NBA should have never let come.

I hope the massive support the Kings have received from their fanbase somehow translates into an increased urgency to put a winner on the floor. The first step to being a winner is often just making it to mediocrity and I want that Kings draft pick in 2014 or 2015!

It will they never tried to win when the maloofs started BS 6years ago and it started by chasing a hall of fame coach away. With new manegment they will clean house stating from the front office (keep evans and cousins)

I've never seen someone fight so hard for thier NBA Live '05 team.

Hey, ho, PYRO!

Pyro's going to be a mess when he finds out the Magic broke up the Penny Hardaway-Dennis Scott-Nick Anderson trio...so dominant in NBA Jam: Tournament Edition.

Too bad all it takes is one vote and this whole plan falls on its face. (This is assuming all 7 votes stand pat on the sale as well). Also I hardly care about the Maloofs. NBA will strong arm them, and if necessary will use the "For the good of the league clause" and force a buyout of the Maloofs to stop foolishness. You and other Sonics fans can keep hope, I just don't see it.

Also I feel I read somewhere that the Maloofs have no say in this and that by accepting a deal to sell they gave up the right to control the destiny of the Kings, But I think its 99% false that it is true, Its out there somewhere and is something to think about.

I also find it hilarious that Softy (one of Seattle's reporters/radio personalities) said Sacramento is finacially tapped out, I don't think the city cares, they are going to go in the red as far as possible to make this work. Its just sad. But the silver lining for many fans is they keep the team.

I think the efforts of Ballmer and Hansen will force expansion at the very least, I don't think they get the team, they could force the hand of Stern with litigation.

I just don't understand the need for California to have four teams, or Texas to have three.

I understand they are larger states and have a higher population, but I still don't see the need for any state to have more than two teams at maximum. I've never understood why LA needs two teams, and I have always saw Sacramento and the Clippers as the two odd teams out in California.

It'd never happen, but I wouldn't mind Sacramento heading to Seattle (sorry RealKingsFan) and the Clippers either moving down to San Diego, or going somewhere else.

Or I wouldn't mind an expansion so Seattle could get their team.

Don't really know what this has to do with anything, just ranting a bit.

I think the really sad thing in all of this is the fact that the NBA (at least, the 7 people who voted) want to keep the Kings in Sacramento so bad, they don't care if the city goes bankrupt over it.

I don't hold grudges. Its fine if you have your own opinion, Pyro and I are on opposite sides and we still are having a civil conversation, opinions shouldn't mean I hate you.

I actually feel that I have been incredibly hostile, and even if you don't see it that way, I apologize. So much information and misinformation flying around.
