Knicks sign Jared Jeffries to offer sheet

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
didn't think so...lol. guess isiah thomas is just sticking with stupidity as his guide for running the team.

i guess holding lebron to 34 ppg gets you that type of contract :chuckles:.

all average big men are screaming Nene money

now the Ira Newbles of the world will want Jeffries money. I know it is fair to compare Jared to Ira, no one deserves that, but you get the point I'm sure.

Jared Jeffries is getting overpaid, but he brings a lot of things to the table...a lot more things then Newble ever did.

Looks like Washington will match, according to the NY Post..

Two sources close to Ernie Grunfeld told The Post on July 19 that the Wizards GM was confident Jeffries would return to Washington because Grunfeld planned on matching any mid-level offer and did not foresee another team surpassing that reasonable price.

A third source within the Wizards organization confirmed yesterday Grunfeld hoped to match the Knicks' offer for the full $5.2 million mid-level exception. Across five years, that's $30 million. The Wizards would still be under the luxury-tax threshold, meaning they wouldn't have to pay double that amount like the Knicks.

New York Post - Two sources close to Ernie Grunfeld told The New York Post on July 19 that the Wizards GM was confident forward Jared Jeffries would return to Washington because Grunfeld planned on matching any mid-level offer and did not foresee another team surpassing that reasonable price.

Grunfeld did not return phone calls yesterday, but confirmed the offer sheet signed Friday has arrived.

"We have received an offer sheet and we have seven days to respond," Grunfeld said in a statement.

The Wizards recently offered Jeffries a comparable six-year, $33 million pact. The only slight glitch would be if Miller convinces Grunfeld that Jeffries will be miserable playing for the Wizards.

But that does not seem to be the case. Jeffries had a good conversation with the Wizards brass since the signing, according to his agent.

Miller has been outspoken on Jeffries' wish to play for the Knicks, but was noncommittal when asked directly yesterday if his client would be unhappy returning to the Wizards.

"That's hard to say," Miller said. "We spent 31/2 weeks trying to get a deal done with Washington. Then we tried what Jared was most comfortable with, his relationship with Isiah Thomas, whom he's known since he was 12. We signed the sheet with intentions of playing for the Knicks." [READ]

Washington can't match this....

smart move

The Wizards reportedly will not match the six-year, $30 million offer sheet Jared Jeffries signed with the Knicks last week.

League sources told The Washington Times and The New York Post that the Wizards will announce Monday that they will allow Jeffries to sign with the Knicks, after mulling it over for a week.

The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Jeffries, selected by Washington with the 11th overall pick in the 2002 draft, has averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in four seasons with the Wizards. He averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 77 games last season. Listed as a guard/forward, Jeffries played shooting guard, small forward, power forward and even center for the Wizards last year.

The Knicks already have four other small forwards -- David Lee, Quentin Richardson, Jalen Rose and first-round draft pick Renaldo Balkman -- but at 6-foot-11, Jeffries provides a different look for the team.

"We recognize they have a right to match," Jeffries' agent Andy Miller told the New York Times when the Wizards received the offer sheet. "But hopefully, they take into consideration some of the human factors of it. In Jared's mind, he'd be better suited to playing in New York and for the Knicks."

Last season, New York stumbled to a 23-59 record -- second-worst in the NBA and equaling the most losses in club history. On June 22, the team fired coach Larry Brown just one season into a five-year deal worth a reported $50 million.
