Kyrie Irving

Kyrie is playing pretty decent on D right now actually. At least he is trying. Even though nobody is out letting him the ball after misses, which is weird since he is the PG.

Yeah, but watching Irving share the rock excites me so much for this year. He's going to really look to setup LeBron and Love. I could see a 17-10 year coming for him.

I turned it on right before the subs- how did he look during the first run?

PS- Remember when we were prepping the max for Gordon Hayward?:chuckles:

Wall looked like crap. I was actually impressed with DeRozan, I like how he turns his feet at the freethrow line, looked it upo and sure enough he is 80% percent. Pretty shocking how far he has come offensively.

Interesting note from David Blatt they mentioned from a conversation they had with him last week about Kyrie Irving playing defense:

"Well we just saw him do it so you can't tell me he can't."

Good thing careers aren't made off one season.

Yes, good thing ... what's your point? Wall is just as talented as Irving and more athletic. People get so defensive on here when you even hint that another player might be better than a Cav. :chuckles:

Not that I'm saying Wall is better. Just saying his stock is probably a tad higher now.

He is?

I have Irving being far more skilled.. I don't know about talented.

Irving is by far a better ball handler, better isolation player, better scorer in general, better slasher, better clutch player, better shooter.

Wall is by far a better defender and likely always will be, a better passer, a better floor general.

I think Irving can become a top notch floor general and a great passer, I see those things as natural extensions of his present-day game. I don't think Wall will ever be as good of a shooter or pure scorer as Kyrie. The difference is that Kyrie is more impactful to games, in my opinion, overall, than John Wall.

Is it close? Yes. But only because Wall has come so far along and Irving has taken two steps back. If Irving starts improving from his rookie season, which is quite likely, I think the gap between them will grow substantially.

Not knocking Wall in the slightest, just acknowledging how good Irving really is. He is right there with Stephen Curry (but behind him after last season). I have him as the #4 PG in the NBA behind Paul, Curry, Westbrook. Going into this upcoming season I think he has the potential to be better than Russ, and that's saying a lot.

As of right now, I have Irving as the best PG in the Eastern Conference. In fact, he might be the best guard in the Eastern Conference unless I'm forgetting someone.

You said you would "absolutely" take Wall over Irving. And I just think that's laughable, that's why I responded the way I did. Wasn't a matter of being defensive.

I don't think a single NBA GM would take Wall over Kyrie.

This would be a step backwards not forward. Kyrie should always be pushing 22ppg+. Stephen Curry had 24/8.5.. That is ideal, IMO.

Yeah, well, I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement but it's not really an indictment of Kyrie. At the same time, my Kyrie honeymoon ended this season when quite frankly I thought he was downright embarrassing at times.

@Gourimoko I agree on most of that especially

But only because Wall has come so far along and Irving has taken two steps back.

This season should be interesting. Obviously Irving will have the enormous advantage of playing next to LeBron...but that could also "hurt" his numbers some, too. I'm looking for him to finally take that jump in efficiency, that's what I really want to see, and also become at least an average defender (is this too much to ask? lol).

Maybe you're right, I just want his efficiency to increase. He is such a gifted scorer--I wouldn't mind him really looking to get the team involved this year more than looking to score. LeBron and Love will lead us in scoring.

I hear ya, Kyrie pissed me off a lot last season. Hardly gave a shit half the time. But we all know what he's capable of. His laziness last season isn't enough for me to label him a worse basketball player than Wall.

Fair enough. I'm all about accountability, and I am holding Irving accountable. Gonna have to win me over again.

Both Love and Irving are gifted scorers. I suspect Irving will have equivalent PPG simply due to having a higher usage. He's also more versatile (being able to score in almost every way imaginable). I think both will be able to get any shot they want.

It's a crap shoot with regards to who will have better stats though.. I really don't care to be honest, I think the pairing of Irving and Love is insane. Could be the second best 1-4 combination in history. Adding LeBron fucking James is just unbelievably unfair for the rest of the league.
