Kyrie Irving

I think people on the boards tend to take peoples observations and comments and exaggerate them to cartoonic proportions.

Kyrie's shortcomings were being a team leader and getting the offense involved. Now thats has been minimized as he can defer to an established team leader and all he has to do is penetrate or dish.

This has given Irving to mature to go do his thing while learning what wins basketball games.

Irving is still learning how to be effective on both sides of the court but i see a startling improvement to where he started out from the beginning of last season.

Noone in the NBa drives with the Grace and Finesse that Kyrie does and it will always set him apart from his competition regardless of their stats.

but hey saying the offense looks better with one guy or another isnt saying Kyrie sucks . its saying that Kyrie could improve there. expecting Irving to show some commitment to the team when he extended his rookie contract.. is that surprising from a fan base that had a superstar not fully extend that contract and then leave.

I dont get the point for blasting people on these forums for things said taken out of context or different circumstances.

as far as the Irving vs Wall bit. Wall has exceptional floor speed and struggled to find his way before being surrounded by veteran talented that allowed him to expand his game.

Irving is gonna score on you at any time from anywhere. Walls only as good as he is getting on transition.

the separation between these two on the defensive end is shrinking.

Walls gonna turn the ball over more. he isnt gonna space the floor as much and long term he is gonna need to do more work to make his game transition when he loses a step.

I think Irving has really improved his ball distribution but its not reflecting in the assist percentage because he shares the court with one of the best ball distributors in the game.

im taking Irving over wall any day of the week

Boobie Gibson putting up some jumpers. Nothing major though.

Doesn't Kyrie live in Boobie's old house now? Ironically...

Kyrie is Kyrie. I just don't worry about pegging him as a SG or PG; as others have said, it does a disservice to him to try to peg him into a defined role when todays NBA really doesn't really concentrate on specific positions so much as match-ups.

His D will grow in te coming years as he matures and his passing will get better; that's what have a guy like LeBron here who will teach him the right way to play means so much.

I have no doubt he will up his game to new heights now that he's in the playoffs. I'm going to enjoy the ride.

I imagine that by the end of June, Kyrie will be in the conversation for best PG in the NBA. People outside of Cleveland (including many national writers) haven't watched 20 consecutive games of this kid playing a game. That is about to change, and something tells me he is going to show up for these games. I expect some big things from Uncle Drew, on par with the rise of DWade in 2006.

To be fair, if you gave Daniel Gibson elite handles and finishing ability to go along with his shooting, he would have been a star too. That's what separates stars from role players. Stars can do a little bit of everything. Role players can only do a couple of things.

Its the elite handles and incredible 1 on 1 ability that make the comparison less than good.

I'll say this. If Kyrie can continue the growth on the defensive side, and improves his floor game, he can be the best. Most of Kyrie's detractors lamented his lack of growth his first 3 years.

These aren't true PG qualities! He shoots too well!!

Prior to the playoffs, Kyrie was getting interviewed by the media and they asked him if he was turning his phone off like LeBron does in preparation of the playoffs.

He laughed.

And said.....No. I'm good.

Kyrie fucking Irving... He got the ball with the clock winding down before half, dribbled calmly down court, broke Turner and then buried a 3 at the buzzer... This kid is a championship player, his first playoff game and he is performing at a championship level even with all the nerves, distractions, crazy crowd, etc.

And when he turns it on in the Playoffs and puts up game-changing performances and numbers many have doubted he ever could in such 'high-intensity' in-game moments, we'll be the ones sitting with a smirk on our face and a twiddle in our thumbs.

You're welcome.
