I'm wondering if after the win in game 1 the Cavs decided to rest Kyrie no matter what? They certainly would never say this, but some of us said this on Wednesday, so it's not out of the realm of possibility the Cavs decided this on Wednesday after the game. All the other stuff is fluff and mirrors.

Why would you go off what a bunch of doctors who have actually examined the guy say? Doesn't it make more sense for fans, who haven't examined him and don't know the exact nature of the condition, to look up definitions on the internet and play wannabe doctor?
I'm sorry, I wasn't aware pulling the definition of tendonitis and possible implications of playing through the injury from a medical practice website written by DOCTORS was me trying to play wannabe doctor. Obviously something has happened since he isn't playing tonight, yet has been able to play through pain since game 2 of the Celtics series.

Does anyone have a link to the team saying he can't further complicate the injury or are we just listening to 92.3?

Lots of dislikes here but honestly, I agree wholeheartedly. It's the ECF. If no urgency or pain tolerance now, then when?
Um, half of the Celtics series and all of the Bulls series? He's showed pain tolerance and urgency all throughout the playoffs.

Assume they've given him some pretty stout anti-inflammatories which should greatly help manage the pain. The fact that he can't play tells me it must be pretty bad. It'd be interesting if Chris Parker could get more info behind what is going on w/Kyrie's injury, although the team may not want to hand that info out. If the Cavs win tonight I think they should consider trying to keep him off his feet another game and possibly until the finals if the winning continues.

Blatt said it's a matter of dealing with the discomfort during his interview yesterday, you can watch it for yourself. http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/video/archive

Edit to add- are there seriously fans on this forum who listen to 92.3 for their cavs news?

As I mentioned before, I have had BAD knee tendinitis before. Could barely walk on it. If I bent the knee it was sharp pain. Has to straight leg it and hop in and down stairs on the other leg. Mine was from running and doing hills. It really is tough to run and move and you are thinking of it the entire time. The only thing that really helped was rest (4-6 weeks).

If he can't physically do the things necessary to be effective, there is no point putting him on the floor just to gut it out. They have captured home court advantage now and the Hawks are likely without Carroll. Sit him as long as you can and see if you can get through the Hawks without him.

I've never had it in my knee, but have dealt with plenty of it in my foot. When you had it wouldn't anti-inflammatories help manage the pain in a big way? Of course, rest is best as you said, but if you have to do something I'm surprised they can't give you stuff that kind of knocks it out (temporarily of course). My case may be milder than most (although it's still annoying me to some extent 4 months later, even after PT and 4wks rest). I just know that if I'm going running or doing a ton of walking, best to take some ibuprofen or aleve 2h ahead of it.

The other thing is, I've been a little confused on whether the tendinitis is in his foot, knee, or both. It sounded like he had issues with one of his feet and his other knee.

Strained right foot. Overcompensation with that caused the tendonitis in the left knee

They're not resting him.

To me, it just says Kyrie seriously isn't good enough to go. Who knows, maybe he truly risks damaging it even further.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play game 3 either. I don't want to say shut down, but Cavs have to prepare to possibly go the rest of this series without him.

Which is very possible at this point.

According to Rachel Nichols, Dr. James Andrews recommended Kyrie sit out tonight.

Went to the doctor. He told me rest, ice massages, anti-inflammatories. But the only thing that really helped was staying off it about 5 weeks.

Edit to add: at 3 weeks was no better. I considered seeing a specialist due to fears of a tear. But for some reason, right around 5 weeks it got better.

Appreciate the link, but I must have missed something because I didn't hear Blatt say the injury cannot become further complicated. I mean, they had another MRI on it today, why would they do that if there was nothing to worry about?

Watch some of the other interviews, they have said it previously. I watch every one, can't remember exactly when the talked about it but likely earlier on in his history with this injury. The MRI today again confirmed tendinitis, nothing new... They likely thought that something worse was going on because he had more pain. I am for resting Kyrie because he clearly isn't playing well enough, but I don't think it was out of prevention of worsening this injury. I think he could develop a new one by overcompensating like he did with his foot and the tendinitis. I think resting him is the right thing to do, and we probably should have done it before Wednesday's game so he could have had uninterrupted rest.
