Kyrie Irving

A lot of talk has been about kyries confidence in his leg. Maybe the hard work out followed by treatment is a way to build that confidence and get a good bit of treatment done. Docs also get to see how the swelling responds to activity in a controlled manner.

Thinking he might play on Tuesday we don't have that many bodies and if could be a 20 min tune up before the finals

Originally I wanted Kyrie to rest till the start of the finals.

However, I'm starting to worry about LeBron's health. Cant afford this series to go longer than 4 games.

I think we'd be ok with Kyrie playing 20 mins or so.

Last night was Lebron too hyped for a game and cramping up see him before the game hyped and dancing etc. It reminded me of the First game of the season. He will receive treatment and be fine. Kyrie won't play until the NBA Finals because if he wasn't ready on Sunday I doubt knowing we are up 3-0 they would bring him out on Tuesday. Yesterday workout was to keep him in shape and get him use to playing with his brace. Remember Lebron basically took two weeks off when he had knee tendinitis and came back a new man. We basically could potentially give Kyrie the same break and we just need him to play like Kyrie for basically two weeks.

Even if he can contribute a bit, I would be shocked if Kyrie plays in Game 4. It is worth the risk to buy him an extra 10 days of healing to sit him out. If you lose games 4 and 5 you can then consider bringing him back for Game 6. I don't expect that is a decision they will need to make.

Good news. The medical staff's not clearing Kyrie to play until he's close to being fully healthy.

Kyrie Irving (knee) will be a game-time decision to play against the Hawks in Game 4 on Tuesday.

The medical staff wants repeated good days out of Irving in practice before they're comfortable putting him on the floor for game action. Of course, the Cavs have to factor in risk vs. reward with Irving because they haven't needed him in this series to get to a 3-0 lead. If he's out again, he'll have about two weeks of time to rest. Matthew Dellavedova will likely get another chance to handle the point.

Is there really a decent chance that Kyrie will be anywhere close to healthy for the finals? I'm not very optimistic. He injured his foot in game 2 against Boston and they had 8 days rest between that series and Chicago. It seems like he has just gotten worse since then. I don't know that the rest time he has until the finals is enough. I hope I'm wrong.

Yes. His sprained foot has healed. All that's left is the tendinitis in his knee. Once his foot healed, they put him on a different treatment plan for his knee.

Two [roughly] weeks of rest and the new treatment will get Kyrie's knee close to 100% IMO.

Thanks, I didn't realize his foot has already healed. I'm more optimistic now.

Really hoping that after seeing Dr. Andrews and tweaking his recovery plan he'll be as close to healthy as possible. As long as he can stay on the floor, hit open shots, run and PnR with LeBron and not be a huge liability on D the team will be in good shape going into the Finals.

I find it odd that even if he sits out these long periods people are calling for, most ppl are ignoring how out of game shape he'll be. Yeah, it's great he got a 40 min session in before the game, but...

we had 8 days off between BOS and CHI and looked like total dog crap. If you're not playing in a game, you're not in game shape. That puts him at just that much more risk.

EDIT- Well, adds another dimension to the risk, at any rate.

I'd much rather he be rusty and take part of (or even the entire) first game to get going, instead of coming back to try and help the Cavs win when they are up 3-0 and have more than proven that they can beat the Hawks without him and end up aggravating the injury to the point where they lose him for the Finals.

Well, that's not really the only two options which is why it is up to Kyrie and the doctors. What if they/he believe he has progressed enough that the conditioning in Game 4 would be better for him than the rest? I think we often get into debating between two options that aren't really the only options. Him playing sooner rather than later does not necessarily mean he's going to aggravate the injury. Him sitting longer doesn't necessarily mean the injury will get better. What if Kyrie is feeling well and the doctors think getting a game in would help strengthen his supportive muscles and help his recovery?

Bottom line: Kyrie and the doctors will decide when he's able to go and when he's able to, he will.

He dropped 30points after that 8 game layover. Game shape is the least of his worries.
