LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The team will desperately need LeBron to be better on the defensive end than he was last year. He's going to have to clean up after Kyrie and Love defensive lapses. He will be needed to play as many important games as possible. I know it was just a scrimmage game, but i was not impressed by Love's and Kyrie's efforts on the defensive end.

Well, that's because he had to play so many damn minutes, and he was burnt. The Heat treated him with no regard. That's why the Marion signing was key, LB won't be asked to play many, if any minutes at the 4, and there's another guy that can take on some of the defensive assignments.

Marion obviously wasn't as big as the Kevin Love trade, but definitely the second biggest move (outside LB obviously)

There's too much talented youth on this team to not give him the rest he is going to need. He declined during the finals statistics aside.

This is why Dion Waiters is so vital. Take Dion off this team and all the sudden a combo of Kyrie/Love isn't so insurmountable. His ability to create is going to keep the defense honest especially in this new offensive system where ball movement is key. Dion will have opportunities where the ball is moving and he'll be all by himself or isolated with only 1 or defenders to beat off the dribble and that's where he excels.

Dion's presence will help ensure that LeBron gets the rest he needs and it's a reassurance knowing that you still have another offensive threat that can and will beat an opponent off the dribble or catch-and-shoot.

Les Levine has adamantly been implying that the Cavs could do without Dion recently and it drives me nuts.

Why can you be fined for doing this?

Why can you be fined for doing this?
Depends on the game and the intentions. Spurs and Pop were fined for sitting their three stars in a TNT game mid last season. But Pop was kinda bein a D about it, so...

maybe you should wait until the season starts to weigh in on that

I think this is a really smart move by the cavs. Gotta rest our guys, Spurs have shown, the value of resting players for the postseason.

Yeah, because Kyrie and Love are going to magically become good defenders.
your username STILL makes me give zero credence to anything you say. You have no idea what defensive system we will run. I'm still up in the area regarding their defense for three reasons.
1. Lebron's insistence
2. Being on a team with overall superior talent
3. Another year of growth.

We will see improvement from them on the defensive end, but they aren't going to become good defenders overnight. In year two, they will get better, but it takes more than efforts to be considered good defenders. Old habits die hard.

Yes and judging the defense in any fashion for its performance during a meaningless exhibition seems pretty logical...

Exactly. It's like complaining about the lack of defense in an All-Star game. This was a show for the fans, not the 7th Game in the NBA Finals.

I can't be the only long timer around here that is really tired of reading your frequent comments in every thread. You are new as a Cavs "fan".. you are new around here... and you do not possess the basketball wisdom you seem to think you do. I believe you'd earn a lot more respect if you'd take a step back, observe the team AND this forum for a bit, and see how both develop. I also can't be the only one who resents being "taught" by a poster that advertises exactly why type of fan he/she is in their very username. You didn't watch this team last year, except in highlights. You don't get to speak like you do. You should show some humility and slow your roll.

LeBron James was a below-average defender on his best day in his first three seasons in the NBA. He gradually improved, however, over the next four seasons in Cleveland, emerging as an elite defender in the last year-and-a-half with the Cavs.

If these two put in the effort, and nothing is indicating they aren't, there is a serious chance they improve enough.to have a good enough defense to win multiple titles. It's certainly not a guarantee, but it's not far-fetched.

The modern NBA youngster tends to be a very underdeveloped defender. The elite players in high school rarely play comparable elite talent outside of the AAU circuit and AAU is a setting that rarely emphasizes defense. Love has actually shown plenty of signs of being a very good defender. He may never be a rim protector, but he's elevated every other aspect of his defense since he's entered the league. Kyrie hasn't shown a great deal of progress as a defender, but for a guy who will be playing for his third coach in four years, I am not going to necessarily hold him 100% responsible for his lack of progress on that end of the floor. LeBron and Blatt will hold him accountable more than Byron Scott or Mike Brown ever did.

I think Kyrie also not having to shoulder so much of the offensive load will also lead to a marked improvement as well.
