LeBron's Career Ranks

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am guessing you are not from Akron. We feel ignored by Clevelanders, and Lebron never felt from Cleveland but from Akron. Its just how most Akronites feel.
It’s spelled crAkron

I’m a Zip and worked in Summit County (Akron - Fairlawn) for over ten years after school.

I just find the Akron - Cleveland distinction in the context of pro sports to be utterly meaningless. Akron is part of the NEO TV market (so is Stark County where I lived six during Jr high & HS) and the Cavaliers spent about 20 years playing in Summit County.

Cleveland and NEO have to put up with a lot of crap from haters and condescending assholes from all across the country. Last thing we need to do is having silly pissing contests inside our region. Rather than fight among ourselves let’s go after more worthy targets.

Plus nobody outside NEO gives a shit.

As a Clevelander transplanted here, I've picked up on this sense of being "sonned" by that city by the lake.
There's a subtle, yet visceral difference in personality between the two towns.
Here are some old sayings that tend to resonate:

"The best restaurant in Akron is in Cleveland."

"If you're in a good neighborhood in Akron, you're too close to a bad one."

This is the classic Ft Wayne, IN vs Bippus, IN distinction that most of the nation has been familiar with for so long.

It’s time to let bygones be bygones and acknowledge that all four of these cities are great in their own right.

There are also an Awful lot of Steelers fans down here. A bit jarring to see that.

Then why do you root for CLE teams?

My understanding there is a huge heroin problem there right now, i dont know, i havent lived in Akron for almost 30 years. Like Lebron, I took my talents elsewhere.

As you have proven, most inside NEO dont give a shit either. I am just trash talking and having fun.

I grew up Fairlawn, Wallhaven to be more specific, but us Akronites do feel like red headed step children, no, not WIndler, lol

2 reasons to still live in Akron:

1 You are in the witness relocation program
2 you couldnt sell your house

Had the military not taken me out of Akron i'd be doing nothing with my life in that city. I have great memories and terrible ones. I haven't been back since 2009.

And yea, the Akron/Cleveland drama was basketball related for Lebron. Cleveland teams generally laughed at Akron teams. They were always chirping at and making fun of St. V. That is until Lebron flipped the script on their asses.

I'd read and seen St. V versus national powerhouses, but I've heard nothing about Cleveland rivalries. Any team with HS Lebron was so overpowering, I can't imagine an ordinary or ever a good team competing with them.

I'm pretty sure that Lebron has said this himself. A lot of that was before St. V started going for National titles.

In the late 80's St V was a football power. They won the football division III state title in 89....Buchtel won state title in 88 and 89 Division II.

I just dont think they were a Division I school in the 90's so not considered a basketball power house at all, too small. Obviously Lebron changed that.

More of a mid major level high school if they were in the Tourney. Nothing wrong with St V, just not a 5 until....

I was not in Cleveland at that time. (90s-2000s) Do you know any stories about St. V when they started playing the Cleveland powerhouses with Lebron?
