Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just goes to show you how much we rely on Lebron.

It's either that or our players are wildly overrated, and I don't think anyone wants to open that can of worms.

There's two sides to the ball. Basketball is inherently a sport where players play offense and defense and switch between them in rapid succession.

Wildly overrated? I'd say both are exceptional offensively and MISERABLE defensively.

Overrating them, would be declaring that both are passable defenders. There's nothing there for me to rate.

THEY DON'T COMPETE! Overrated no....

Offense and Defense, there are two dimensions to the game of basketball.

One dimensional, absolutely. Both are extremely dynamic offensive players, but their impact is wildly offset by how bad they are defensively. Their only window to a win would be both guys going off for 50 in the same game.

That's all the analysis there is. I have seen enough of this shit, the sample size is large enough to see what the fuck is going on here.

The end.

If we had guys able to cover up these issues, I think we'd be ok. But when we have Miller and Smith also in the starting lineup, it's just a blowout waiting to happen. And then these guys are trying extra hard on defense (even if they don't do a good job), which makes them a step slower on offense and they end up forcing shit because they're tired. Having LeBron, Shumpert and Mozgov with Love and Kyrie will be a godsend. And with Marion on the bench, we can still have guys who try on the defensive end on the floor at all times.

Remember the good old days when Kyrie used to put effort into defense?

Thanks to Mike Dunleavy Sr. for keeping it simple, summing it up.

Justin Termine asked him on Sirius/XM, "What does it say about the Cavaliers that they are 1-8 without Lebron in the lineup?"

Dunleavy said, "They don't play no damn defense."

Simple huh?

Exactly. If you're going anywhere in this league - including the second round of the playoffs, you'd better be ready to get tough and knock some people on their asses. I am sick of this play - it's embarrassing. You can see the opposing players going at him on the reg.
Wow I just sit and watch every game waiting and hoping Love will drill someone but it never happens. If he had any brains he would start sending messages that anyone coming into that lane could get whacked. He only makes himself look silly by not being a physical presence and letting guys abuse him over and over. Dead right about the playoffs...you just can't play like Love is playing now and expect to get anywhere in the playoffs.

Technically that double negative means that we do play defense.

I don't think he's that strong to be honest. It's the main thing that has kind of shocked me about him since joining the Cavaliers. He just seems weak.

Today is the one year anniversary of the Cavs being
pummeled by the Kings, 124-80.

One thing Cleveland fans know how to do it take a punch.
Or three.

I hate how David Griffin is trading assets away like its 2k15 for band aids at our weaker positions. We've traded 6? first round picks (including TWO #1 overalls) for this shit roster
It's worse than that. Here's the complete list of what was sacrificed.

Andrew Wiggins (#1 Overall)
Anthony Bennett (#1 Overall)
Dion Waiters (#4 Overall)
Tyler Zeller (#17 Overall)
Sergey Karasev (#19 Overall)
2015 First Round Pick (Heat)
2015 First Round Pick (Grizzlies)
2015 First Round Pick (Thunder)
2016 First Round Pick (Cavs)

No less than 9 first round picks, literally years of tanking and asset collection all gone in one stroke. The Bulls can also swap their pick with us this year, and they will.

The next pick we can trade is in 2018.

I try to be the voice of reason around here and keep everybody from pushing the panic button so I'll address a few things in this post.

First, firing Blatt is the worst thing you could do right now. The absolute worst possible thing. First of all, Griffin just came out a week ago and said he was in no trouble. Now you renege on that? What kind of message does that send to the players? Bringing in a new coach that hasn't been around the team at all would also be a terrible idea. He would have no time to instill an offense or defense because there is very little practice time in the NBA. Tyronn Lue's defense has not been good so it wouldn't make any sense to promote him. If you fire Blatt, it can only happen after the season. That's the first thing.

Second, why has this team played so poorly? It all starts with that game in OKC LeBron had to miss. Why? That game not only ended their 8 game winning streak, but Kyrie nearly avoided tearing his ACL. In my opinion, it took Kyrie quite a while to mentally clear that hurdle considering all the injuries he's had. Hence why his defense suffered. The team went 5-2 after that loss the next night to New Orleans, then Andy goes down. Everybody on the team loved Andy and I think that had a psychological effect on the team.

Then on Christmas Day, LeBron didn't play well in that emotional game back in Miami and Kyrie reinjured his knee at the end of the game. Kyrie missed the next 2 games and the offense suffered. Then against Detroit, LeBron and Marion both get hurt. Kyrie comes back against Atlanta and Love gets hurt and misses the second half plus the next game. Then we find out LeBron is out 2 weeks. I think all these injuries just piled up and overwhelmed the Cavs. They started playing scared and afraid to get hurt. They are playing very relaxed on the defensive end not just because of the personnel, but because they don't want to get hurt before LeBron gets back.

The offense has not been good because this team was built to play through LeBron. Kyrie is great off the ball, Love and LeBron can fit perfectly together, and the concept of a center and a shooter on the floor is built to Lebron's strengths, not Kyrie's. Kyrie has never played in an offense where his job is to create for others. His job has always been to be the #1 scoring option, so when he's playing without LeBron, he reverts back into that mode of score first, pass when scoring fails. This team will flourish when LeBron gets back because that will mean everybody except Shumpert, who hasn't played with them yet, will be back from injury. The energy will pick up just from the excitement of the team being healthy again, Mozgov has replaced the hole Andy left, and the team's best player and playmaker will once again be back out on the court. Everyone will be able to forget about the injuries and start focusing on winning again. I would not at all be surprised if this team goes on another 8 game winning streak as soon as LeBron gets back. Hopefully it's tomorrow.

Finally, I just want to remind you guys of things you have forgotten about this team because of the rut they are in right now. This is the same team that came back from 19 down in the 4th quarter to beat Boston in Boston. This is the same team that came back from a double digit deficit at home against Toronto in the 4th quarter to win. This is the same team that fought OKC tooth and nail in OKC with LeBron out. Guys, this team has not been nearly as bad as the record suggests. Kyrie shot 47% with LeBron and 41% without him. Love has improved his field goal percentage by 3% since LeBron has been out. JR is a much better shooter than Dion and he won't be asked to try and create his own shot much. Mozgov is a better center for this team than Andy. If LeBron returns tomorrow, I could easily see the Cavs winning 33 of their next 44 games which would give them 52 wins on the year. Everybody just take a deep breath.

Well when you frame it that way without mentioning that those players and picks yielded LeBron, Love, Mozgov, Shumpert, Smith then sure it looks like we just dumped assets away for nothing.

Furthermore, on draft night we can either select a player to develop or trade him for an established player. We do not have to wait until 2018 to trade a draft pick.

They can essentially trade the #1 2016 pick as well once they actually draft the player.

Picks can also be bought.

Oh we didn't dump those assets away. We are the dumpster fire. They're the ones who escaped.
