Let's settle it--Wally's contract: What to do with it?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OMG, I just had this crazy idea. There might be more to getting Miller than just expiring in 2010.

If we WERE to do a trade for Bosh or let's say another star, we could package a guy like Miller + Ben, leading to huge amounts of cap space for whatever team.
General manager Bryan Colangelo hasn't unplugged his phone to avoid hearing trade offers while the Raptors are indoctrinating new coach Jay Triano.
"This is a constantly evolving game and we're going to try improve the roster as we move forward," Colangelo said after firing Sam Mitchell.

Who they gonna trade? Who do you think people are calling about?

One of the things that I've wondered about when thinking of what to do with Wally's expiring contract is what Dan Gilbert's viewpoint is towards taking on additional salary in the years to come. For instance, would he be willing to trade Wally if it meant we could get some young talent and/or draft choices but we'd also be taking back a crummy contract like Kenny Thomas or Brian Cardinal?

There's a ton of guys with those types of contracts, especially those with contracts that run this year and next but expire before the Summer of 2010. Some examples: Thomas, Cardinal, SAR (although I think he's retiring and will eventually come off the books much like Snow for us), Speedy Claxton, Mark Blount, Bobby Simmons, Larry Hughes (doubt it), Trenton Hassell, Mike James, almost everyone on the Knicks, Earl Watson, Brian Cook, Matt Harpring, Etan Thomas.

Or take a guy like Marko Jaric, a name brought up a little bit in the trade ideas section (in part as a salary cap filler, and in part cuz he's dating Adriana Lima). Does the Grizz owner want to dump his contract badly enough that he would do a Wally for Marko, Buckner, Crittenton, Warrick, 2010 #1 pick (the one they're owed by LAL)? Would that be enough compensation for Gilbert to sign off on?

We definitely couldn't have settled this in the other 5 trade scenario threads dealing with the exact same names... the Let's settle it--Wally's contract: What to do with it? thread is the only solvation outside of a violent Battle Royale in a steel cage.

I honestly care less and less about who Wally is traded for... I just want to talk about the Cavs team I see blowing everyone out, Wally or no Wally.

Once again, they are looking for a veteran PG, not Sasha.

We could work something out in a three way, but I doubt it'd be cheap.
what about this

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...0~1985&teams=22~15~15~5~5~5~22~5~22&te=&cash=

Cleveland Receives:
Martell Webster
Travis Outlaw
Channing Frye
Dan Gadzuric

Portland Receives:
2009 Cavs First
Lukie Ridinour
Charlie Bell
Sasha Pavlovic

Milwaukee Receives
2010 Cavs First
Ike Diougu
Wally Szczerbiak

Milwaukee might be looking to rebuild this year so with this trade the get a first from us and 16 million in expiring this year. Wally could be a decent contributor and replace Charlie Bell. they get rid of Gadzurics awful contract

Their line up:
Ramon Sessions/Tyron Lue
Redd/ Wally
RJ/ Alexander
Charlie V/ Prince/ Malik Allen
Bogut/Fransisco Elson

they have a decent future core with their starting 5 plus Alexander and M bah Moute

Portland gets their veteran Point Guard. THey get to decent wings in Bell and Sasha and a first from us this year.

Their line up
Ridinour/ Blake/ Sergio/ Bayless
Roy/ Fernandez/ Bell
Batum/ Roy
Aldridge/
Oden/ Pryzbilla

they might trade blake for a back up PF then

Our line up
Mo/Boobie
West/Webster
Lebron/ Outlaw
Ben/ Frye/ Hickson
Z/Varajoe/ Jackson

I just wonder if Portland would do that cause it may hurt them some but if they are really that desperate for a veteran point guard it could happen

Can a mod just move this thread to Trade Ideas since that's all it's become?

Better yet, why don't we MERGE every thread involving Wally's name and an idea to get someone for him?

The Redd thread brought Vince's name into the picture via debate, and vice versa. Many of the others involve any of the following:

J-Rich
S-Jax
C-But
M-Mill
Swing-men

I personally don't need to hear about every idea at this point. Nobody knows. Hell, Ferry doesn't know. I'm just happy with putting the new thread into play with the above information, named:

The Key Contract: What Can Be Done With It, Who Could Fit The Best, What Is The Dream Move?

No offense guys, but we can't really add more to this speculation, can we? All I hear is what I used in the paragraph above, over and over.

Mods, is it possible to just create this mega thread and exile it into the Trade Talk? It seems daunting, but I'm not sure I want to continue beating a dead horse in pale excitement. I don't comment ever about it, and I don't need to (as many others do), but I only need to see anything in Trade Talk if someone with real insight can confirm it. And there isn't anything going right now, apparently.

It's getting to a point where we hear it as much as LeBron in 2010 talk. We got that under control with your help. Now can we please do the same with the Wally trade talk?

It's up to you guys. Every sports board needs trade talk and speculation for it to succeed. But we have the best place for it already. And we have a too damn good of a team to just talk trade all the time. Let's get something going, if humanly possible.

Thank you for whatever you can do.

As for the subject matter. The sooner everyone realises that Wally's greatest attribute to this team is his contract the better. My opinion wouldn't waver whether we were 20-0 or 0-20. Wally is an ending contract which is very valuable on the trade market. We have a small window of opportunity to keep this team elite whilst not having room to sign anybody significant. That window is using Wally's contract to its greatest effect. Letting it expire gets us nowwhere. The Cavaliers need to be looking past this impressive record when evaluating our future moves. Having LeBron on the free market with our starting bigs either gone or near redundant without another core piece is placing us in a vulnerable position.

Dont fall into the trap off looking too far into our record and believe Wally is a significant part of it. We need to look past the present and look to where we will be this time next year heading into the summer of 2010.

In Karma I Trust. Couldn't have said it better myself (although I tried). It's to bad that these threads turn into fantasy talk, come on Amare for late draft picks and Wally?! how can you even think that is fair.

I think Ben's expiring is even more valuable because of the timing of when it expires. ALso, pavs might bring back someone decent for depth with his expiring. Plus, someone might remember the pavs from 2 years ago and think he has alot of value as a player. Wally is not our only hope to improve. I think priority number one this offseason should be to resign AV. Last year I didnt think it was possible, but enough mending has been done and enough moves by AV's agent has been done that this is now possible.

On the Mike Miller front. If the front office and the coaching staff feel west is a good enough player to start for a championship team at sg, Mike Miller might be perfect. Miller would be a great depth guy to bring off the bench and play 25 mins a night.

I think that Miller would be perfect off the bench. Our rotation is great now. It would be nice to bring a bigger guard off the bench who can also step in at the 3 in a smaller rotation. If I'm Ferry I am looking into this one closely. It makes the most sense in what he has been trying to assemble here.

We get our defensive 2 guard and AV insurance in Eton thomas ,who won't demand alot of playing time, and has alot of size and power.

Haywood was the problem in that locker room not Thomas.

When the we played them all those years for some reason Butler stayed clear of all the scuffles and beefs that occured.

Caron never got in LeBron's face or anybody esle's, he let his game do the talking.

As much as it seems that Jamison is the odd man out due to age and contract length,he is a favorite of Arenas, the front office, the fans ,the young guys ,and a good pressence in the locker room.

I don't think Jamison will be moved, but a package of Butler and Daniels/Thomas/Songalia is more of a possibility.

Would love it but Washington might wait for next year for one final try.

I don't know about next year. I think a lot depends on when gilby comes back. If he comes back in Jan. and they still blow they might look to turn a page. But if he comes back and they go on a little run they might try again with the same core next year.

If they blow it up next year we'll have Big Ben's contract to dangle in front of them, either way we could be players.

However, I don't think they'd do Caron/Thomas for an expiring and a bench player. I think we'd need to give up boobie or Andy. I'd be willing.

I think The wizards would do that, but they might want someone else, such as andy. But arenas already said the wizards should tank so they could get a top pick lol He already wants to throw away the season, and i think they'll do it, once they realize that they're not gonna go anywhere come jan-feb
