Let's settle it--Wally's contract: What to do with it?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
i got a question

I am really starting to buy into the idea of webster, outlaw and frye

what would it take to get them

wally, sasha, 1st (or 2 first round picks)

or maybe wester and outlaw and then joe smith gets a buyout and we sign him

what do you guys think?

VC will be traded out of NJ. I wish a guy that thinks like you was my next door neighbor, because I would surely bet you $100 bucks that VC would be traded out of NJ by the deadline

VC will be out of NJ, count on it.

Maybe I should have said that Vince isn't getting traded for just an expiring contract. The Nets would want an expiring, a young talent, and some draft picks, you know, the standard rebuilding package.

If the Cavs offered Hickson and a pair of draft picks, then maybe the Nets would be interested, but I don't see Cleveland giving up that much to win Vince's contract and I don't see the Nets trading Vince for anything less than that as long as Vince is playing at a high level.

Also, if there were two equal offers for Vince, I could see the Nets prefering to send Vince Carter somewhere other than Cleveland. Cap space in 2010 is less valuable o the Nets if Lebron is winning rings.

And if all the Nets want is cap space for 2010, they have a lot of time to wait to get better offers for Vince. If they are going to make the playoffs this year, I could see them waiting for another year before trading Vince.

Mike Miller is not a game changer, he is not someone you can rely on to carry your offense when LeBron or Mo are struggling, he's just another role player. Outside of being 6"8, what does he give the Cavs that Delonte doesn't? How would he make a difference against the Celtics, all he's going to do is spot up, he's not going to put pressure on Ray Allen to defend him, he's not going to go to the rim or to the line, the guy hasnt taken a free throw in 4 games. I hope he's not available, I'd hate to see him or Raja Bell join the Cavs, the Cavs need talent, not more roleplayers.

What about Boobie, picks, and expiring for Vince... not sure that would be enough, but I'd do it. It would clean up the guard situation.

He doesn't need to be a game changer, you are essentially upgrading Wally. We already have all star caliber SF, PG, and Center. We don't particularly need a 4th star. A role player that can spot up and knock down shots with great size and athletic ability that Wally lacks will only help this team. He doesn't necessarily disrupt chemistry either as he can come off the bench if need be. Not to mention that he is a great teammate, will not disrupt team chemistry and doesn't come with the "get mine first" agenda that some of the other options do. This is a less sexy and more low key acquisition but one that I think puts us over the top. I firmly believe that he can help in a playoff series against bigger guards especially since he will finally play on a team where defense is held at a premium.

Once again, they are looking for a veteran PG, not Sasha.

We could work something out in a three way, but I doubt it'd be cheap.

Really? We're 17-3 and need another star but not just a role player? Some people are under rating Mike Miller a lot. He is not just a spot up shooter. You don't average 14 ppg over your career as just a spot up shooter. He has also averaged 4.8 rebounds per game and 3 assists per game over his career (4.4 apg this year). He is not as one dimensional as some of you are making him out to be.

I am a risk taker though. I would take VC, J-Rich, Redd over him any day. But I would not be upset with Mike Miller at all. Expiring contract in 2010. That is huge. He could either start or be a GREAT 6th man. A bench of Miller, Boobie, AV would be very good in the playoffs. Hopefully Wally would come back and Wally and JJ would be the 9th and 10th guys during the season.

Mike Miller is a perfect fit for our offense if you ask me. Delonte is playing great, don't get me wrong. But that is mostly because of Mo and LeBron. Delonte is wide open all the time and plays great off of them. Mike Miller could do the same thing but better IMO.

He would not put the Cavs over the top, certainly not in a matchup with the Celtics because he does not put pressure on the defense, sure he spaces the floor, but that only goes so far. You need someone that spaces the floor and can also create when need be, he cannot create his own shot consistently (72% of his shots are assisted). The Cavs have 1 star, dont overrate Z and Mo, when you compare talent the Celtics clearly have the edge, as good as Z and Mo have been neither one of them is a legitimate 2nd option, a 2nd option is someone that can score 20+ppg in a 7 game series. Mike Miller is the safe pick, he wont disrupt chemistry because he's not really adding much that Delonte doesnt already vie them, other than being tall, and he's not nearly as good a defender as West.

Honestly, I think there is a really good chance that the team just let's Wally's contract expire unless there is an awesome sweet heart, sure fire win, doesn't mortgage the future of the team type deal.

The team is playing great with awesome chemistry. You don't want to mess that up.

The economy isn't so good. Many teams are hurting for revenue this year. That means the salary cap and luxury tax levels might actually decline next year. That means the luxury tax bills get higher and cap space is harder to come by, while team owners bank accounts get lower. That means owners get desperate to shed salary next summer. That means better deals next year.

Maybe there will be a small deal this winter, but I'm not so sure that the big deal is going to happen unless it is a complete steal for the Cavs. Letting Wally's contract expire gives the team the flexability to look at a lot more deals next year.

He is primarily a spot up shooter, again 72% of his shots are assisted, he comes off screens here and there but he's mostly just a catch and shoot type of player. I dont care about record, Im thinking solely of how the Cavs would matchup with the Lakers or Celtics, two teams that clearly have more talent than the Cavs currently have.

I am a risk taker though. I would take VC, J-Rich, Redd over him any day. But I would not be upset with Mike Miller at all. Expiring contract in 2010. That is huge.

That's where we differ, I would be upset with Miller, I think Wally's contract is more valuable than Mike Miller.

Outlaw is the guy i want as i said many times. He is so versatile and can be a go to scorer on the 2nd unit and cause a lot of mismatches. He has good size at 6'9, very athletic/long and can shoot from basically anywhere on the floor. He can play mutiple positions which is a huge plus. He would basically take over Wally's role but he would be waaaaayy more effective than Wally. He has a very cap friendly contract with 2 yrs for 8m left on it.

It would definitely take a 3rd team as i said before, which i mentioned Charlotte because Felton could be available and Portland wants another pg. Imagine Mo, West, Bron, Outlaw and AV on the floor at the same time. That line-up would cause the opposing team headache's.

OMG, I just had this crazy idea. There might be more to getting Miller than just expiring in 2010.

If we WERE to do a trade for Bosh or let's say another star, we could package a guy like Miller + Ben, leading to huge amounts of cap space for whatever team.

I see Portland more interested in Conley as it has been rumored. Brings instant chemistry between the two.

Something close to:

Blake/Outlaw for Conley/Warrick

Gives Memphis some outside shooting and bench depth.
