Manny Harris

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Does anybody know which stats translate best to the D league? Manny has a lot of rebounds 7.9.

One of the the problems I see with Manny is that he is only getting 3.3 assists. He is a me first guy. He showed it, especially in those games he scored big last year. I think this my be a Kinsey situation, and we now that does not endear you to the front office and coach. He has been a scorer his whole career.

Seriously, if he is really more talented than those guys in the d'league, he should be helping them exploit the defense. I haven't seen any games, and a 2 doesn't need to get 10 dimes a game, but he needs to be an opportunistic scorer and mostly a passer. He need to look for openings and attack or get it to the guy who can, not just chuck it like Jamison.

3.3 assists is bad for a scoring guard?

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Manny averaged over 4 apg in his final 2 years at Michigan as a combo guard, which isn't bad at all. He's obviously a score first player (as are most SGs), but he has never been a selfish player. Guys like Beal, Lamb and Rivers average 2, 1.7 and 2.1 apg, respectively.

In the D-League, yes. Also, it is supposed to be a variation on our system so he should be looking for other guys cutting to the basket etc. He should be exploiting them beyond just scoring 46. Again I point to the rebounding. He won't be rebounding 7.9 in the NBA, but he is clearly exploiting the inferior talent. That is a good sign. I'd like to see him do something similar with his passing.

In the D-League, yes.

Do you have any basis for this, or just saying this arbitrarily? How many assists should a SG be averaging in the D league if he wants to play in the NBA?

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

His assist rate is slightly above his assist rate in cleveland last year. His shooting has improved dramatically. In one year he's gone from a .374/.370/.763 shooter to a .470/.409/.857 shooter. That's after a slow start coming off his foot injury. As a starter (12 games) he's shooting .500/.484/.848.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Manny Harris was always a mid to low 1st round pick, but injuries kept him from participating before the draft. That's why he wasn't drafted.

Now that I've seen MarShon Brooks for a while, he really strikes me as a similar player. Not in playstyle, but in what they should be able to accomplish in the league.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

According to Bob Finnan, the Cavs will not make a move to sign another player to a 10-day contract until after the All-Star break. The Cavs' apparent lack of interest in Manny is perplexing. There must be more to this story that we can't see. Perhaps, there is something about Manny's game, the Cavs don't like or maybe there is something about Manny they don't like. I am beginning to think it is the latter.

Clearly, Manny is playing well. Well enough to get another look, I would think. Our roster isn't exactly busrting with talent on the wing. The lack of wing scoring is an obvious weakness on the Cavs. One thing seems to be apparent. Byron Scott does not appear to be a Manny Harris fan. If Byron wanted Manny back, it is likely he'd be on the team by now.

It is not just the Scott and the Cavs. Other NBA teams don't seem to be interested. Manny has basically taken the D-League by storm being the only player this season to twice be named player of the week. This might be an indicator of some degree of success in the NBA, yet no one is calling for Manny. Why? It is a bit of a mystery.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Dan Gilbert just tweeted Manny is back.

Got crushed on posting first. Good to see so many RCF'ers rush to post breaking Cavs news.

Now is it a 10 day contract or signing?
