Manny Harris

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Er, wasn't his injury more of a freak accident and maybe even not his fault? IIRC it was a freezer burn due to his foot being thrown in a freezer (by a trainer?) to help a foot injury heal.

It was the fact that he left his wet sock on when he put his foot in the new age version of an ice bath after a workout. Probably stupid when you think about it, but it was an accident and I don't think the Cavs were punishing him for it. Manny couldn't practice or play at the time, making it pretty hard for the team to justify carrying him on the roster. With the large number of games in a short amount of time and the absence of a real preseason, I guess they felt they needed someone who could actually practice with the team. They also probably felt he was unlikely to sign elsewhere if he couldn't play yet because of the injury.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

i thought he was using a nike recovery thing and he had wet socks on. freezer burn.\

edit: beat me to it

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Manny also didn't get the foot attended to like he (and/or Nike) should have, so, I wouldn't say it was just an accident.

It was a screwed up situation. Because of the lockout, he didn't have access to Cavs team doctors. And the doctor he eventually saw (when the foot wasn't getting better) apparently didn't do much (and certainly not as much as the team would have done). Nike was probably more worried about getting sued than helping him get better. I have no evidence for that last part, but there was speculation he might have had grounds to sue, but apparently he chose not to.

Glad he is getting better now.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

I really liked Manny when he played last season. He shown some nice potential. I also thought he showed a better jumper than what I first expected. I'd like for the Cavs to resign him before he is picked up by another team.

Given how much even a minimum salaried player NBA player earns, there's really no excuse for not getting immediate medical treatment and after care. Heck, what's to stop him from calling the team doctor? He's not a full time employee of the Cavs, his real job is at the Cleveland Clinic. Or Manny could have called his agent. Or his mother. Or checked himself in to the nearest emergency room, etc, etc.

He screwed up ...

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

I went to the Charge game Tuesday night and saw Harris. He seems to be moving around fine. He looked okay health wise.

It's hard to tell how he's doing, a D League game is kind of controlled chaos compared to an NBA or college game. He put up a great stat line, but once you go to a D League game and see it in person, you realize the difference in level of talent. I wouldn't say its the NBA's equivalent of AAA baseball, more like A ball.

I would have liked to see more assists out of him, but after watching the game, assists are hard to come by. Lots of fumbled passes, guys cut one way ball goes the other, bounce passes hit people's ankles, etc. I'm not bashing the game/team, you can just tell it's not a group of guys that have been playing together for a while. It makes it hard to judge a guard.

His jumper did look pretty good though, and it's nice to see players who can hit free throws. I think he'll be back at some point this year.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Manny had another nice game tonight against the Bakersfield Jam. The Charge won 124-108 and Manny had a very nice stat line: 22 pts (9 of 15 shooting), 10 rebs, 7 asts, 2 stls and a +/- rating of +13. He is averaging 22.2 ppg over the last 6 games. He is forcing the Cavs to make a decision: keep Mychel Thompson or let him go and re-sign Manny. Should be interesting to see which way it goes down.

BRING BACK MANNY

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

How long until the trade deadline? Is that the beginning of March? If we hold off long enough, we may open up some roster spots without having to let anyone go.

They set it at March 15 this year.

Another quality game for Manny. The Charge beat the LA Defenders and Manny had 21 pts. So did Luke Harangody who also added 11 rebs. Harangody was 3-5 from beyond the arc.

As for Manny, he finished with 21 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts and 2 stls. His shooting was off as he only hit 3 of 13 shots but he did knock down 14 of 16 free throws and hit 1 of 2 3-balls. He +/- rating was +6.

I really like the way Manny is getting to the line. Good way to have a producvtive game even when your shot is not falling.

I guess Harangody's numbers show that you can't put too much stock in D-league stats.
Of course, with the Cavs' lack of depth at SG, Harris could help us.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Daniel Gibson out with neck injury. Said it has been bothering him since Nets game. Can't turn head, said it's more severe than stiff neck

Sounds like Boobs could be out for a few games

Bring up Manny

Er, i think this point has been made... The cavs can't "bring up" Manny, they would have to sign him first. To do that, they would need to create a roster spot. Not saying that isn't easily done by cutting Mychal Thompson, but it is a bit more difficult than Grant just making a call.
