Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Delly also needs a small bump in assists to be on pace for assist to turnover leaders. He needs to be on pace for 200 assists, and he is close. He missed those games in the fall and played heavy minutes with the end of the bench squad. If not for that, he would be getting more national attention as a leader in a few categories.

These clowns can't even get easily accessible stats right. He's shooting 40.1% from 3, only trailing Kyrie.

I agree they might make careless mistakes but maybe they were looking at JR's time in CLE only whereas ESPN.com is including his stats for the full season.

He's +5, +9 (MIAMI loss when no other Cavs player was a net positive other than Marion and Perkins in garbage ball), +24, +6, +21, +11 in his last 6 games. That's +76 in his last 117 minutes played.

He's played 165 minutes total with James, Shump , and TT in our defensive lineups and is +27 per 100 possessions playing with those guys. He's + 13.9 per 100 in 500+ minutes with James.

He's +17.6 per 100 in over 300 minutes played with Shump; when he's in with Shump, we make an astounding 8.7 MORE three pointers than our opponents per 100 possessions. Why? One reason is that Delly is making open threes and he's stopping others from making them. Opponents are shooting only 27% from three against him, one of the best DFG% against threes in the league. Opponents shoot 6.5% below what they normally shoot when Delly guards them. Shump holds opponents to 3.5% below average, and James and TT also hold opponents to below average shooting.

He's not perfect or ideal, but he's contributing to winning in different ways and in his set times, he's excelling in passing, making open shots, shutting down 3 point shooting, and getting rebounds. With Delly on court, we are the 3rd best defensiuve rebounding team; with him off court, we are the 18th best defensive rebounding team. He tracks down long rebounds and when he doesn't get them himself, he boxes out so others can get them. With him on court, we are the 4th best rebounding team and the 3rd best offensive rebounding team overall.

He knows his role, does some things really well, and plays every game as if it were his last. I'm glad he's here.

Even looking at just JRs stats in Cleveland, he still is behind Delly and Kyrie. 40.9% from Kyrie, 40.1% from Delly, 39.6% from JR. If you're writing about sports, you should be able to read or calculate stats properly if you use them in your articles. Clowns.

If he was on pace for 200 assists and was ranked, he would currently be ranked #4 in the NBA for assists to turnovers...together with his high 3 point scoring and he would definitely be on peoples radar nationally

He made the rising stars challenge. That is damn good for an undrafted guy who does the dirty work. He doesn't have flashy stats despite his interesting advanced stats. I think people have noticed and he will have a long career of being a contributor to winning.

He is really playing a lot better. This is more like what we were seeing before his knee sprain. I have to think it was holding him back. Guys are not just going around him so easily now.

He just needs to revert back to his shooting % from 2 from his rookie season, then you're talking about a very efficient PG from the floor who takes care of the ball at an elite level and plays solid defense

Is there such a thing as an oop or alley-oop stat (Attempts v % made or something like that). Its obviously very high % play if executed well. I would be interested to see how the Cavs generally and Delly specifically rate in this. I can't find anything so far but admittedly haven't looked overly hard. With some of the stats analysis I've seen in other threads perhaps a couple of you guys can take a break from developing string theory and let me know :)

The additional effect a player has on specific others is not always on the stats sheet. Sure Delly and TT work well together on the oop, but there is more to it than that. Blatt made a point of reporting how early Delly gets to a shoot around, but just as tell is the fact that he was not there alone as he had persuaded Hood to join him, which can only be a good thing for the development of Hood as well. It is a good example of 'intangibles'.

Delly shutting up the haters today.

It was raining Delly TREYS tonight! Kid must have put in so much work at practice. Given the coaching staff always points to his devotion, commitment and work ethic, it's safe to say that Delly did what Dion was told to do but didn't. Practice your catch and shoot jumper. Make it. Delly can't miss!
