Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
19. “Unbelievable kid, unbelievable work ethic,” Blatt said. “Every good thing that happens to that guy he deserves.”

I don't think he deserved that knee, but maybe Hill felt differently, he can be pretty pesky on defense. :D:D

I've maintained all along that I think Delly is fine as the backup PG on this team as his strengths, 3 and D, are what we really need of that spot. It seems some wouldn't be happy until we get a prime Jason Kidd to backup Kyrie. Of course, I'm sure some of those PG experts were the ones that would've liked to trade Kyrie and keep Dion because he wasn't "a true PG" and "had an attitude" or whatever the talk was 3-6 months ago.

Would it be a good thing to add another PG in the offseason? Absolutely. I think we'll target one in the draft. However, even if we added prime Jason Kidd to backup Kyrie, he's not going to take the ball out of LeBron's hands. No one ever has. No one ever will. No one ever should. At best, they'll split the distributor duties but I'd much rather have LeBron being my backup PG(which is essentially the case now) than any backup PG in the league.

Most of the time now, and ALL of the time in the playoffs either LeBron or Kyrie will be the primary ballhandler and facilitator and that gives us the best 1-2 combo of any team in the league IMO. Those guys create offense for themselves AND for others. They don't need Jameer Nelson or JJ Barea to get them going. I'd much rather have a guy like Delly who can at least do the dirty work and hit open 3s than someone who needs the ball in their hands to be effective.

Delly has his warts, but they're warts we can live with. I've called him the PG version of AV since he first started getting PT last year and I still think that to be true. They each have one solid skill, hitting open 3s for Delly and rebounding for AV. They're both tenacious defenders. They're both the type of guys you want on a winning basketball team that's loaded with star power. If Delly were cut this offseason, he'd have no problem getting picked up by a winning team.

I'm a little fuzzy on your %s, but it's obvious he's more effective with that shove shot when yes, he has enough room to maneuver. Delly would have more room to shoot by putting another pure scorer with him off the bench. That scorer/shooter is JR Smith. He's got the quick release to mask Delly's weaknesses as a shooter. Shumpert's shot keeps improving, but it's not the threat JR's is. Could totally change the offensive threat level of our bench unit.

(from JR Smith thread, post 762)

After that part about shooting 48-126 total from 3, there should be a comma.

Saw this on my Twitter. This picture cracks me up because Delly looks like part of their family and not a professional athlete taking a picture with fans.

I'm glad there's still fans out there who appreciate what Delly contributes especially since a lot of people have seemingly started to hate Delly, especially those who are vocal about it on Twitter.

Kid's been money from three lately. He's gotten to the point where I expect his shot to go in when he takes it. That, to me, is very impressive.

The only real problem with Delly is that, as an undrafted point guard, his handles kind of suck. He's most effective next to a guy who can handle the ball and get it to him when he's open.

I agree he's most effective as an off ball guard but honestly I wouldn't say his handles suck. You can tell he worked on them over the summer because they look better than last year and he's made some use of them by getting into the lane and throwing oops to our bigs and making more cross court passes. Plus, he rarely turns the ball over, which is good.

Make no mistake, he's no Kyrie dribbling wise lol, but I guess it's good we have a PG who might be able to help him improve in that area, seeing that he's one of the best in the league.

I like dellys game and think he has a role on this team, but i get why the cavs are looking for another backup PG in the draft. The as currently constructed cant really guard the small quick penetrating guards. A lot of teams have them and they are a constant source of penetration.

I'm all for the idea of drafting another PG, just as long as we don't completely push Delly out of the rotation because I think he brings a lot of intangibles (like his contagious energy) and certain skills that make him a valuable contributor on the team.

Problem is there are maybe 1 or 2 guys who can actually guard PGs in our league at an elite level by themselves, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon (CP3 and Beverley). You are never going to be able to fully stop a PG from penetrating with 1 player, which is where a rim protector like Timo or an athletic wing who can slide over and cut off the PG like Shumpert comes into play. That's just the way the NBA is right now with all of the good PGs.

As for Delly, I'm not sure why he isn't on the qualified list, but he would be 4th in the entire league in AST/TO ratio. Something I have always noticed that goes un-talked about in here is how well he takes care of the basketball. We complain about his ball-handling and his FG%, or praise his 3 point shooting, defense, and the energy he brings, but never the fact that he takes care of the ball at an elite level. He took care of the ball at an elite level last year too, but still I rarely see it brought up. If he can get his FG% from 2 point territory up to where it was last year, continue shooting the 3 as well as he has this year, continue to play defense the way he does, and continue to take care of the ball, is he really that bad of an option at backup PG moving forward? Especially when Kyrie enters his prime and logs heavy minutes and the team gets deeper.

Awfully quiet in here after another great game played by this guy.

*Echoes* "Delly...Delly...Delly...Delly...Delly...."

Outback jesus shall not be forgotten! He was a straight boss tonight, hitting his open jumpers finding an open Mozgov repeatedly and generally rustling the grizzlies jimmies all night long. strong performance Delly, strong performance.
