Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hope he has a good playoff run... but I would be shocked if backup PG is not addressed quickly in the offseason. Fine with Delly as the emergency third stringer as a guy at the end of the bench who plays when others are hurt or resting or in blowouts, or to send a message if a guard is not giving 100 percent. But other then that he should not get major run next year. We really dont have a choice this post season. He is going to have to play some..

The guy costs nothing. He's not a liability, in fact he seems to be a specialist at getting the Cavs back into ballgames with his energy & hustle. A glue guy the team loves to have around. Happy to play his role and do anything asked of him.

I'm not disputing the want of a seasoned vet at PG, especially going into playoffs, but this kid has a place on this team. This is a better team by giving him 10 -15 mins a night.

yeah, my problem with Delly is that he is really more of a shooting guard than a point guard. He's fine when either Lebron or Kyrie are on the floor, and it seems like Blatt is aware of that and generally staggers their rest. As long as both of them are healthy (mainly Kyrie), Delly is good for his role. Problem is that he is the backup PG, so when Kyrie is not playing he becomes a huge liability because he has to play extended minutes and run the offense when Lebron isn't on the floor. That's why I think we need a legitimate backup PG, but even then I think Delly would have a place on the team as a 3&D player. Let's all just pray that Kyrie stays healthy through the playoffs, in which case this won't be an issue.

I really don't think there's a much better fit that we could have asked for than Delly in his current role backing up Irving. Especially at his salary, he's a really good piece for our team in multiple ways. I'm excited to go to battle with him in the rotation as a back-up PG.

Post All-Star break, Delly averaged 5.6 points (41% from 3 and 93% from the line), 3.3 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game. To get some perspective, per 36 minutes, that's 9.6 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds. Upon first glance, not too impressive, but this was on a USG rate of only 13.9%! He's been very good in the role he's played.

He also had a Plus/Minus of +5.2 and a Net Rating of +2, both of which are very impressive considering those numbers get dragged down by the minutes he has to play with the end of our bench during blowouts.

I didn't watch the Washington game since the past few have been throwaway games. Now I regret missing it. A few weeks ago, I thought that Irving would have to miss a few games for Delly to qualify for the A/TO statistic. He needed to average double his season average to qualify. I doubt it matters much in the grand scheme of things that Delly is a qualifier, but I couldn't be happier about the bench gelling as a unit at the right time.

I still can't believe Delly averaged over 20 MPG for us this season. He was sixth on the team in minutes played! Granted that would be different if Shumpert and Mozgov had played for us all year -- then Delly is probably 8th in MP -- but he would still be pretty close to them. We will definitely see him in the playoffs.

He is a strange mix of strengthes and weaknesses. On offense, he is totally, comically incapable of creating his own shot, but is a very solid spot up shooter from 3 (hopefully that will carry through in high-pressure situations). On defense, he has great hustle and plays good team defense, and will D up anybody (had a few amazing efforts this year against PFs and centers), but he gets obliterated man to man against quick guards.

I definitely don't see him as a SG, he is much better at setting up and playing off others than attacking the defense himself (and that is an understatement). He needs Lebron or Kyrie out there because there needs to be someone on the floor who demands respect from the defense. Then Delly can act as a passer and spot-up shooter when they are double teamed.

This guy is a perfect fit for the team. He has liabilities, but he's doing a number of things well. He gives maximum effort, which is contagious and can help turn momentum in games. He's shooting the 3 better than James Jones this year, I believe. He's shown a knack for hitting clutch catch and shoot 3 pointers which works very well with LeBron's passing game. He's a guy who I could see doing a lot of amazing things in the playoffs this year, securing 50/50 balls, good hard fouls on key opposing players, etc.

Agree...see Delly being a very good playoff player...think he has the right temperament...playing with Bron on the court when Kyrie is resting will see him shine...his hustle and defence will come to the fore...expect to see him taking charges from some pretty big bodies. If you had to go to war with anybody, you would want Delly next to you
