Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In these playoffs, we have played 245 minutes with Delly on court and 331 minutes without Delly off court.

WITH Delly, our defensive rating is 94.4, equivalent to an all-time historic defense (I know you can't straight compare DRtgs due to overall league style of play due to rules, etc., but the 2003 Spurs had a rating of 94.1 and a bunch of teams from the '73-'74 season had lower ratings).Put another way, at our current playoff pace, that would mean we would allow 87.5 points a game. With Delly on court, the opposition shoots worse, gets fewer rebounds, and turns it over more.

It's funny when people try to discredit the defense by saying the opposition sucks, but the fact is that the Hawks were the 6th best offense in the regular season, the Bulls the 11th best, and the Celtics a respectable 18th. The way you hear things, you would think they were 25th, 29th, and 30th ranked hobo offenses. None is a great offense, although the Hawks made life tough for a lot of teams this year.

WITHOUT Delly, our defensive rating is 106.8 which would be about 21st in the league this year.

Even when his shot isn't falling or he isn't creating, he's been a huge positive for us on court and has played better than so many players who are getting paid millions of dollars per season.

Lol Delly, you got the kids in realgm making a thread arguing about you being a "dirty player"

You leg locked Gibson, and ankle sniped Korver, you a bad boy.

I knew you was always quiet for a reason. :fight (4):

Was just going to raise this point. I am wondering if the Hawks players will go after him physically even though I gotta say it looked simply like typical Delly hustle for a loose ball. We may close the series out before Delly would have to deal with the Hawks fans...

I feel like he's already got Millsap and Teague pretty frustrated, Teague been sneaking in elbows and Millsap really tries to level him on screens.

I know he's in Teague's head after last night, Delly was daring him to shoot 3's and Teague was scared to do it, everytime Teague drives Delly is right in front of him hands up giving no room. Teague be like :cha (40):

As I mentioned in the game thread, he secured a loose ball exactly how rugby players are trained to secure a loose ball. Korver put himself at risk by trying to block a loose ball with his leg. Korver probably wanted to make sure his hair would remain unruffled, but that isn't how you secure a loose ball.

He really bounced back well after a bad game 1. Knocked down some open shots, and made some adjustments in how he defended the quickness of Teague and Schroeder. That's all we need out of him moving forward.

While he didn't shoot well in Game 1, I don't think he had a bad game at all. He actually did a good job slowing down Teague, who shot 4-12 with Delly on him.

Maybe the stats tell a different story. It appears that they do. When I was watching the game live, I thought Delly was poor all around. Guess he wasn't as bad as I thought although I was a much bigger fan of his performance in game 2.

Not specifically picking on you Randolph but I just want to correct the Rugby reference (started by LeBron), Delly grew up playing Australian Rules football among other sports ref: http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/features/growingup-delly-131011

He supports the Collingwood Football club (the Magpies, or the Pies for short)

They are both great sports but Aussie Rules is by far the most popular Australian football code (attendance wise at least). Both types of rugby, league and union and Australian rules football are high contact, tough sports

Interestingly the current Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury, was an excellent basketballer in his teens and it shows in his poise and vision on the field and is often referenced in the commentary. (#10 in video)

Potentially pedantic but I'm a big Aussie rules fan.

That's what I thought. Thanks for pulling that up. BTW, have loved that sport since the mid 80's when the 4 letter network used to show it. Now I get to watch it Friday and Saturday on Fox Sports 2. Hawthorne Hawks are my team.

Anyways, go Delly!

Hey, I am just commenting on what I know, bro. I do wish I knew more about Australian Rules football. I played on a rugby team two years in college (John Carroll Blue Streaks) and dabbled in Gaelic football as well. For an American, I'm down with what Delly is doing out there, using plenty of rugby fundamentals on a basketball court. I respect they aren't exactly the same. I just hope people realize what he did was textbook and safe, as long as the other guy going for a loose ball is equally textbook.

All good, it wasn't a criticism and technically you are correct it was a rugby fundamental.

The face of a guy what every daddy warns their daughter about.

I love how Delly is like Shump. There are nights when they're off offensively but comes up great on the defensive end. I just love what the guy does. My feelings went from "meh I don't care whether he gets traded or not" ever since he got here to "he's gotta be with us for a longer time".
