Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The French have proven time and again that an inherent lack of competitiveness can come from being born elsewhere though.

@King Stannis @Adolf Hitler @Charles de Gaulle @Maximus

Bet @gourimoko does a double take at the tail end of my hashtag when he first sees it.

The French Army's flag is a white sheet....

De Gaulle was no pushover, however. The only Frog who fought in May 1940.

Who would have thought environment shapes personality? In Alaska, where I grew up for half my childhood, it is expected that people will pick up hitchhikers. Why? Because the weather and wildlife kills people. It also makes people more communal. These are values that come from living in a harsh environment. The same could be said of Australians given the geography, weather and history (thieves and all).

Since the article is a flattering one I would like to agree with it, though due to the sweeping generalizations it is naturally inaccurate. The 'humorous' TV sketches are also cringe-worthy - I would add better but this is a basketball thread and not an advertisement for the australian tourist board. Australia is a nuanced and reasonably complex society largely made up from different waves of immigrants and over the past 70 years these have come from a wider segment of the world's ethnic groups. It is reflected in the subset in the NBW: Ingles family were from the UK, Bogut's family was/is Croatian, Exum - USA, Bairstowe - Aust and Patty Mills Torres straight islands and Aboriginal. Perhaps the best tale to tell from this is that first generation Australians have taken on board the 'culture' of Australia as far as sport goes.

I don't like how the announcers call him "Matty" or worse yet "Little Matty". That's really insulting. If a guy is an NBA player he deserves more respect than that, especially when you look at how well he played in the playoffs.

Andrew Gaze, former NBL great and current announcer and Delly admirer calls him 'Matty' ...

To provide context, it is customary Australian slang to add a 'y' to the ends of first names and surnames. Billy, Danny, Johnny, Sammy etc. etc. In fact, it is a more common representation of admiration and acceptance than it is condescending and degrading.

Similarly, most surnames (usually ones that are long in nature) are chopped in half or extended with a 'y' at the end. For example: the surname Swan is often extended to Swanny. And the same obviously goes for Delly.

Not that this is relevant to anything, but I thought I would just clear that up.

Livingston won't be able to post Dellavedova up.

We really need him to make shots for us just because we need all our shooters to play well...no reason to believe he won't though. Hopefully Kyrie will be good so Delly can go back to being the change of style/pace person he was all season. He did well against Atlanta starting and playing all those minutes and while he plays hard I really think making Curry work via Kyrie balling is going to be important to our chances.

I agree and I really don't think that Delly would want anything different.

I can't help but feel like Delly is being discounted in this series again. I think Kyrie is still a huge question mark and I think that the need to have someone providing reliable defense on Curry and Thompson will be key. I think Delly will be assumed to be too slow and clumsy but he's already shown he can guard people like Teague, Schroder and Rose.

In order for Kyrie to be a net positive for us, he will need to be able to score 18 to 20 points at least, IMO, because he's probably going to get torched on the defensive end. If Delly can play good defense and score 10 to 15 points, draw a charge, maybe dive for a loose ball, maybe his contribution ends up being greater. It will be interesting to see how the minutes and defensive assignments play out for Kyrie and Delly.

In a perfect world, Kyrie feels great and scores 25 a game and torches the Warriors the way he did in the regular season games, but it just seems like the Cleveland curse makes such optimism difficult! I just don't think it will be that easy for us and that's why I think Delly will be the unsung hero again.

Teague did have a good game, might have had more. Rose is slow by his standards and hurt. Klay and steph are none of those things. Both very quick spot up shooters with a team that knows they live and die by their shooting. It will be very different and interesting to see what eventuates. It will be a hard series for all and Delly will be under a lot of scrutiny for past events as well as the game play itself.

The thing that delly can do is stop fast breaks by fouling. That's really important for the cavs and any time you give curry a little love tap it helps throw him off his game

A Dellavedova autograph for $25!!!! Talk about being ripped. We got a basketball clinic and a t shirt for the kids for less than that last year :chuckle:

Seriously, great to see him appreciated by the fans for the work he has put in

While Kyrie being ineffective would be such an Ohio thing to happen. Delly stepping up and being a huge factor would also be. Dude would go from undrafted rookie to star in one playoffs
