Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Was noticing all the talk in the Shumpert forum about the likelihood of his making NBA All-Defensive teams in the future, but do you think I'm out-of-line in suggesting the same for Delly? Especially if he continues taking it to the MVP on the game's biggest stage, and even more so if the Cavs ultimately triumph?

It's hard to see that happening off the bench and let's just hope he will continue to come off the bench

There needs to be a filter on this site that blocks posts that contain the phrases "skip bayless" and "Stephen a. Smith". They add nothing to an intelligent discussion.

Honestly... I really don't know why people continue to bring either of them up. It's almost like continually hitting yourself in the nads with a hammer.

Im so happy for this kid, hes showing what true determination and hard work does for you. Hes been amazing this playoffs even thought the stats dont show it, when delly is on the court the defensive presence just go to another level. Im proud to have him here in cleveland.

I think it's a great time to repost this one:

Delly is not just the reason i joined RCF, he and Mills are the reason why i took any interest in basketball at all. 18 months ago i did not know what a pick and roll was, had to wiki it. I never lost faith in Delly but I nearly lost faith in Cleveland when they could not see his value. Thanks Randolfkeys for your common sense sanity.

Stephen A smith did say "Delly was causing some problems for curry" and "Delly made some pivotal plays."
I'm not a basketball guru but I'd have to believe that Delly chasing Curry around also sapped Curry of a lot of his energy and it has to also wear on him mentally. Between that and Delly basically always staying in front of Curry ....and quickly recovering if he lost him, it was a great defensive performance. It helped that Curry was seeming to have an off night but Delly obviously exacerbated that or possibly even triggered it with how he locked onto him early on.

Skip Bayless has been praising Delly, so he's off the hook for now. :) Stephen A Smith just stubbornly refuses to give Delly any credit whatsoever though.

He said Delly lead the charge and was the most important player on the court for us last night.

Given, I get it, LeBron James didn't have his greatest game ever. And Delly's defense on Curry was obviously key, and those free throws he hit sealed the deal. Delly was awesome and we obviously don't win the game if it wasn't for him.

This guy still had a triple double. Anyone that really believes Delly was the best player for us last night, is seriously trolling, and that's what he was doing.

after Delly nailed the free throws at the end and a timeout was called, no one really came over and showed him love

i know everyone was exhausted and just wanted to find the bench but it was funny

I forget the context he said, but made it out like Delly was the most important aspect of us winning. I mean, I agree in a sense, he closed the deal, but the game is played not just in a few minutes, like he tries to make it out to be.

LeBron was not good in the 4th and overtime, I think he was dead tired, and had some horrible calls against him too. So Delly yes, was the most important player in the 4th/overtime in a sense. Not the entire game though! haha

Not even sure Delly was the second most important player for us. Mozgov was huge, and I don't think this game goes to overtime if Blatt plays him. He was dominating their front line, and was just a terror.

Delly was awesome and obviously a key reason why we won though.

Now we're starting to see more talks of how Curry only beat himself and how he just didn't hit open shots, especially from Bucher. What's being overlooked is:

1.) Curry may have missed some shots he normally makes, but he makes some crazy shots to begin with. Just because he misses them, doesn't mean they're any less difficult to make.

2.) Delly constantly being in his chest, chasing him around, and being step for step with him the entire time he was in the game only made those shots even more difficult.

3.) While guarding him, Delly made Curry work for almost all of his shots and even made him work while trying to go get the ball. Not sure if Bucher is aware, but fatigue plays a role for a shooter, specifically when you're a PG and you have to work so hard to even get the ball.

4.) Anyone who has played even one game in their life will tell you that a defender that is constantly in your chest, constantly stride for stride with you, and won't leave you alone can be a pest. It takes people out of their game and frustrate the hell out of you.

5.) I don't care how good of a defender you are, you're never going to be perfect guarding an offensive guy (as far as not giving up clean looks goes).

6.) Delly has done this the entire postseason. He's successfuly shut down or slowed down every starting PG he has come across.

I'm glad we ended up sticking with Delly during the search for a new backup PG. He's built for the postseason and for this team.

oh yes thats very true.. i played 4 years in Germany in the youth leagues semi professionally.. if have faced and been a defender like Delly.

not that athletic.. not that tall.. but always give 150%,stick to your man like industrial-glue and get into his grill and head.

Especially Star players HATE guys like that... it annoys the hell out of a guy like Curry that a guy like Delly sticks to him that hard.

Its so amusing to see everybody downplay Dellys impact... they will see come Game 3

they dont know Delly.. we do... we know even if Curry makes some more shots.. Delly will still make Currys life hell no matter what.
