Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The trouble I see for Delly is that he often seemed like a better matchup when he was defending opposing shooting guards than he did point guards, especially if the opposing point guard was really quick. Last year he got to play a lot of minutes as a 2 guard. We'll have to see where he ends up this season. Much depends on whether Waiters & Wiggins get traded. The team could still use someone other than Lebron who can defend quick point guards.

There should always be a place for defensively gritty, and locally popular guards on a team in Cleveland...

We're basically a lock to trade either Wiggins or Waiters for Love sometime before the season starts. My money's on Wiggins, but either way it will open up some backcourt minutes for Delly.

I agree. I'm pretty sure there will be minutes for Dellavedova next year, especially if the Cavs use a positionless offense and frequently play two guards who can create, along side a SF & PF that can create.

If we stick with more traditional labels, I expect to see Delly playing more as a 2 guard off the bench, but I guess a lot of that depends on who gets traded and how the Cavs fill out their rotation.

If Wiggins gets traded, I think we'll see the Cavs take a flier on another small guard who can defend quicker guys, since that's not an ideal matchup for Waiters or Dellevedova.

Really? I thought Dion looked quite good defending the point when given the opportunity. He's quick laterally when motivated, and big guards like Westbrook, Wall, and Rose can't overpower him either.

Yeah, I don't know many guards who can defend the better short quick point guards of the league one on one period. We saw Andrew Wiggins get carved up against some quicker scoring point guards when put on an island. The answer seems to be creating a team concept to slow this type of offense down. I like the fact Dellavedova was able to defend three positions last year. While he did give up some drives to the quickest players, his off the ball defense, physical play, quick hands, and correct rotations show he is a plus defender.

With as much as Bron loves Andy, gotta figure he'll like playing with Delly too. Delly's basically PG Andy.

Looking at the summer league games as well it seemed delly had been working on his jumper if we can keep hold of i think he will be an effective floor spacer in the corners now off the catch.

I love Delly's skillset. I think his grit and defense are exactly what the Cavs need off the bench. Plus he has range and I expect his shooting to progress. I think he takes a big jump this year.

Delonte West with leadership, intelligence and sanity in place of... whatever it is that screwed up Delonte?

I've watched that video twice and have no idea what is going on. I don't know what sport they are discussing. I am amazed Delly acclimated so quickly to the NBA after communicating like this most of his life. :chuckles:

Minus the athleticism. But otherwise, he's got the potential.
