Memphis Grizzlies trade Rudy Gay to Toronto

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder how many more chances Dumars will get to sign players to pricy longterm contracts (most recently, CV, Gordon, Prince) and then turn around and unload them (at least Gordon and Prince so far) to free cap space that enables him to make more questionable signings.

I'm not saying the trade was bad for them, and it opens up other opportunities, but if he didn't make the signings in the first place...

Good thing for Dumars that he has picked up some very promising players in the draft. Bad thing that he had to send a future high draft pick away in order to get rid of the Gordon mess.

If I was on Memphis, I would want to be traded. This team will go nowhere.

I don't see the Memphis pick falling into the lotto anytime soon either. I pray that Z-Bo reverts back to thug-life and erodes the chemistry of this team. I don't think they'll be spectacular..I just think they have a good enough core to grab a 6-7 seed in the West for years to come.

Dont know where that just came from...

They are better positioned to spread the floor now than they were a few weeks ago. Not to mention getting championship experience in Prince just now.

I like Memphis more after this trade

I just realized Prince is only 32, I thought he was a lot older for some reason.

If we are talking years ago, we have to include the fact that they had OJ Mayo. Do not see any way whatsoever this makes Memphis better. What happens if Z-bo or Gasol goes down? Royally screwed.

OJ Mayo has been utterly mediocre for the Grizz during the playoffs: there was a reason they let him go this offseason.
Also Ed Davis is a better and younger player then Speights so they actually are better positioned if one of the starting bigs get into foul trouble. In addition, Darrel Arthur came back for them this year and he's been good off the bench for them

Seems a lot of criticism of Memphis is coming from folks who haven't really watched them much over the last few years.

I recall lots of people on this board being furious that the Cavs didn't sign Charlie V a few years back. What a yucky contract that has proven to be.

I dont care how cutthroat you are...

When you see something like this, it has to pull at your little boy sports hero heartstrings. HAS TO! Even if the Tayshaun Prince fan was 40 years old and should have had access to the internet... his favorite player suddenly is not coming out of the tunnel ever again after 10 years :bigcry:

At least we won't have to worry about passing Toronto in wins. They are getting back on that treadmill!

I didn't say they were all superstars. And each one has a strength, whether you want to see it or not. So I am not sure what to tell you.

By the way: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/MEM/2011.html
Memphis beat the Spurs and took OKC to 7 games WITHOUT Rudy Gay, two years ago. Last year with him? First round exit.

I think this trade makes them even more of a contender in the west.

Tell me, what's Jon Leuer's strength and when have you seen it? You're imagining it at this point. He's shown nothing in the league.

I like the trade for Memphis, but I don't think it turns them into contenders. Ed Davis is really good. Problem is, Z-Bo and Marc Gasol are better, and both will be getting 35+ minutes a game in the playoffs. Where is Ed Davis going to get his minutes to actually help them?
