Mike Brown, Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Once Dewey arrived you knew it was only a matter of time. I'm surprised it was this quick.

I can't help but feel bad for the guy, even though I'm not sure why. Always thought to develop his HC skills he needed to head to a young struggling team that needed a new identity, without a ton of expectations. LA was the absolute worst fit for him.

This leads to the return of Phil, why wouldn't he?
Make some bank and finish out Kobe's career along with his with some rings.
No way the Lakers make this move without having reassurance of someone big coming in.

So how about Chris Grant's crystal ball in his office?

That Sessions trade looks better every day.

I really want D'antoni to get the job so I can post this on reddit.

By the way what was all that Buss talk about Mike Brown being too smart and too hard of a worker to be replaced?

Idk seems kinda like a stupid move to throw away your coach after a 1-4 start. Especially considering the overhaul this roster went through. Gotta feel for Mike Brown

Better to do it now and have a majority of the season to adapt to the new coach vs. letting Mike Brown continue to run this clown show. If there was 1 coach in the NBA that could make Steve Nash look bad, it was Mike Brown.

His offenses are just that inept, and he absolutely refuses to deviate from his game plan. He's stubborn. We all saw it against Orlando and Boston...just a terrible game manager. That isn't something that changes with more experience...you either have it or you don't.

Only in L.A.

I bet they have their eyes on Nate McMillan. Didn't he coach the Olympics team in some form or fashion? He would be a good fit probably.

The timing of this seems to scream that they have somebody lined up already. My money is on the return of Phil Jackson to LA, makes too much sense and the roster is absolutely perfect for the triangle.

Now that people are mentioning the Zen Master, I actually think that kind of team is exactly where Jackson always needed to head to prove himself in the "greatest ever" category.

We still have no idea if PJ can win much at all without having a championship roster handed to him.

So much of the roster has never played in the triangle before... Dwight and Nash would be starting from scratch. I really think it's going to be D'ANtoni.

We should start caring more about this Suns aspect of the trade:

Traded Steve Nash to Lakers for 2013 first round pick (least favorable of Lakers (top 14 protected), Cavaliers, Kings (top 13 protected), and Heat picks) (?-?), 2013 second round pick (protected top 40 in 2013, unprotected 2014) (?-?), 2014 second round pick (?-?), 2015 first round pick (?-?), $3M cash on 2012-07-11

Mike Brown should take the best NBATV/ESPN/TNT gig that he gets offered (he's REALLY good on TV), sit back, go to his kids' games, and collect those sweet, sweet Laker paychecks.

I don't think he got quite a fair shot with how the players are assembled there, but he definitely under performed overall. At the end of the day though he's in an alright place. A little embarrassed, but if he can get through the 2010 LeBacle without developing a drug problem, I think he'll be just fine with the way things are now.

Maybe it will help them when the playoffs come around, but it's probably going to hurt them in the next two months.

No way. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers go on a winning streak now. It happens all the time in sports when a coach is fired, especially when its a coach all the players dislike.

Heck, just giving the ball to Steve Nash and running p&r all day will win a bunch of games by itself. Only MB would try to install a Princeton with that roster.

We would have at least one championship had we fired him after the San Antonio finals like we should have.

(sigh)

COMPLETELY disagree. The primary reasons that we even made the NBA Finals that season were, of course, LeBron's legendary performance from Game 5 which broke the Pistons' back, and our incredible team defense that was stellar throughout the entire series. Give Mike credit too for starting Larry Hughes at the point guard, which allowed him to have the ball in his hands instead of just missing jumpers in the corner as well as provided the Cavs with great length at every position.
