Oh God...please...please not the "winner" argument.

Don't do this to yourselves, I beg of you.

Hoyer isn't going to forget how to play, but he's also not going to go from the guy who was cut by each of his last three teams to a guy who people are comparing to Tom Brady either.

He ranks 27th in completion percentage, 19th in QB rating, 27th in YPA.

He's playing smart, and I think we all respect that and hope it continues.

But please, please don't attempt to turn Brian Hoyer into something he isn't. Just respect him for what he is.

Right now playing smart will keep us in games. That's all we need either to let Johnny develop or find our next qb. Hoyer is the kind of qb that doesn't really turn the ball over but you'll never really succeed in this league until you get a qb that elevates everyone around him. No, Hoyer is not that qb.

As bad as that is, the "trust me" argument is even worse. We have no idea who this guy is, or why we should "trust him". But that's the best argument he can make -- "trust me". Because, you understand, he never speaks in absolutes unless he's really, really sure.

Then by that logic, you would also discount Russell Wilson's level of play, correct? Just want to be sure you're being fair/balanced in your analysis as Wilson was 16th in yards, 32nd in yards/game, 20th in completion percentage, etc.

Certainly not in the elite category by many passing measurables. Granted, he adds value with his legs, but also by limiting errors and making plays when they count - something Hoyer has proven the ability to do thus far (game-winning drives, 4th down completions, etc.).

Correct

He did not have a very good game yesterday.

I never ever ever in absolute unless I'm 150% sure of something. It's something I rarely do because I take accountability and realize different variables. Trust me. I'm just certain that hoyer is this teams QB going forward. The team just rallies around him, and he's abfucking winner. And not many QBs would have done as much as hoyer with the players he's had on offense the last 2 weeks.

I identified some of them for you.****see below****

If you have considered these, please, address them individually so that we can understand why you are 150% sure.

If there is information that I have not examined, bring it to my attention so that I can be as sold on Hoyer as you are. The floor is yours.

****** Have we seen how Hoyer is able to adjust to defenses after they have 5-6 weeks of film on him? What about cold weather? Have we seen that yet? What if the running game gets stuck in the mud and our play action is no longer effective? Can hoyer stand in and make those tight throws?

I will always use the winner argument when someone is a winner. Always. And I could not care less about stats, because there are so many variables that go onto concrete stats. Not every QB is on equal playing field. I use intuition my brain and my eyes. Sports never were, and never will be a science.

Hoyer has been a winner for the Browns because he minimizes mistakes, takes care of the ball, and doesn't take unnecessary risks. It's not some innate quality that leads him to win games. It's because our team has a good defense that can put in some work if the offense can stay on the field long enough to give them their breaks. Hoyer is solid enough to keep the offense on the field, and thus the defense plays better because they're not exhausted like they were last year when Weeden was out there doing three and outs every drive.

He's a game manager. Sometimes that's enough to win with. Maybe for the Browns it will be, especially if Pettine proves to be a good coach.

Stats have far less variables than subjective terms like "winner." Just because you feel as though you have superior intuition using "your brain and your eyes," doesn't make Hoyer's performance is any different based on a win or a loss.

If the Saints score and the Browns lose, I'd feel no different about Hoyer's performance than I do now.

The only variable of how a quarterback performs is how he performs... There are zero other variables. If recievers aren't on the same page and dropping balls that changes absolutely nothing. I've seen how hoyer quarterbacks and how the team rallies around him. Nothing will change that. If the saints return that last kick off back well no shit that doesn't change anything hoyer did.

Is this serious? Is that you John Gruden?

Changed your mind?

C'mon man. At least have the discipline to remember what you wrote in your own post.
That initial post was not about hoyer. It was just in general. I said I don't usually speak in absolute because I realize different variables and meant that about ANYTHING. You lack reading comprehension. Nowhere did I specify I was talkng about hoyer. There ARE different variables that can change how successful he is, doesn't change WHO he and how he plays though.
